Following her debut in the time and space adventures of the Loki Disney+ series, the star behind Sylvie has stated she would not mind taking over Doctor Who after Jodie Whittaker.
According to Radio Times, Lady Loki actor Sophia Di Martino suggested that she would keep an open mind about taking over the role of The Doctor. The idea began following the fan reception of Season 1, Episode 3 "Lamentis." Fans suggested it resembled an episode of Doctor Who, specifically regarding two leads surviving an adventure through space and time. Di Martino acknowledged the similarities by saying, "I see what they mean [about the episode] – the duo, as well...We're each other's companion!"
When the idea of her playing the next regeneration of the Time Lord was suggested, the actor responded that she wouldn't dismiss the opportunity. She said, "I wouldn't turn my nose up at it. But I haven't really given it much thought, to be honest. I haven't read any of that stuff." Di Martino expressed an excitement over the fans' engagement with Loki so far. "It's exciting, though. I just like that people, you know, have all these theories, and are being inspired by Loki," she said. "It's great to watch."
Regarding the episode that inspired the support for Di Martino as the next Doctor, the actor expressed that she enjoyed the chance to explore her character more deeply. Sylvie's first full reveal in "The Variant" primarily saw her fighting the TVA, with brief dialogue with Tom Hiddleston's Loki. She said, "[Episode 3] was almost like doing a play. You really got to get onto a deeper level, into their sort of banter, their relationship, and how that is changing. And it was also really refreshing just to do some proper dialogue scenes, because up until that point, I think I'd just been beating people up. So it was really great to really get in there, and do some character work with the two of them."
Jodie Whittaker's time as the thirteenth version of The Doctor, has been rumored to be drawing to its end soon, sparking speculation about who might replace her in the TARDIS. Recent rumors have suggested the likes of singer and actor Olly Alexander as likely candidates for number fourteen. Whittaker began her tenure as The Doctor in the 2017 Christmas special "Twice Upon A Time," and was the first female actor to take on the role since the show first aired in 1963.
Created by Michael Waldron and directed by Kate Herron, Loki stars Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Tara Strong as Miss Minutes, Eugene Cordero as Casey, Sasha Lane as Hunter C-20 and Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, with Richard E.
