Marvel has no shortage of supervillains. For every Amazing Spider-Man, there are a dozen people like Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, the Lizard, Sandman, and Electro. Most of these individuals have superpowers all their own that can allow them to royally mess up a New York City street and leave a superhero with a nasty bout of cuts, bruises, broken bones, and other injuries.
However, these characters sometimes manifested powers that they (and other people) seem to just forget about at a later date. Some characters are given new powers by a creative team and then another creative team completely ignores the existence of these abilities.
10 Loki Is Still Super Strong And Durable (Also, He Can Rewrite Reality Now?)
Loki Laufeyson has a strong aversion to physical combat. He prefers to use tricks, sorcery, and, if necessary, all manner of weapons when combat comes knocking at his door. That makes it easy to forget that Loki is still super strong and durable. He is a Jotun, and, though he is not as strong as Thor or most Frost Giants, Loki can still throw a harder punch than any non-powered human.
Also, the entities at the House of Ideas have also allowed Loki to rewrite reality via a retelling of the past. In other words, history is as Loki remembers it--even if that isn't how it originally happened. This seems like it would have some consequences that have yet to be explored. This is all a result of Loki becoming the God of Stories instead of the God of Mischief.
9 The Lizard Has A Terrifying Alternate Personality Called The Shed
When the Lizard personality killed and ate Curt Connors' son, Billy, the human side of the Lizard went completely silent. As a result, the Lizard was able to run rampant, becoming a new and more powerful alternative to the Lizard called the Shed.
The Shed was bigger and more powerful than the Lizard had ever been, giving Spider-Man a run for his money. The Shed even developed psychic abilities, which made it even harder for Spider-Man to beat this new and improved Lizard. Spider-Man was able to reawaken some part of Curt by showing the Shed mental pictures of Billy Connors, and the Shed retreated and hasn't appeared since.
8 Blob Cannot Be Physically Moved And Can Control His Mass To A Point
The Blob's immense size and strength make him a formidable foe. He is near-invulnerable and has been in punch-outs with the Incredible Hulk.
However, Fred Dukes is also known as the Immovable Object, as he cannot be physically moved if he plants his feet. Furthermore, he was trained to be able to stretch his limbs, increase his body mass, and even trap people inside his torso through some measure of absorption.
7 Namor Can Also Command Fish And Produce Bioelectric Shocks
Namor the Sub-Mariner, who has been a villain as much as a hero over the years, is known to be incredibly strong, capable of flight, and to be nearly unbeatable underwater. This has been known to cause comparisons to Aquaman, though Namor actually predates Aquaman's creation.
He does share several things in common with Aquaman though, and, among them, is the ability to command fish telepathically. Namor can also produce bioelectric shocks from his body like an eel, which, in addition to flight, is one power he has over Arthur Curry.
6 Mister Sinister Can Do More Than Just Clone Himself And Be Smarmy
Nathaniel Essex was a Victorian Era geneticist with a penchant for human experimentation. He was turned into a mutate when Apocalypse transformed Nathaniel Essex into Mister Sinister. This granted Essex all manner of superpowers--many of which he doesn't seem to use anymore.
Mister Sinister is capable of telepathy, shapeshifting, energy blasts, and telekinesis among other things. He's actually a really powerful villain, but he hasn't seemed inclined to use any of this arsenal of late--leaving Sinister to mostly just seem like a smarmy mad scientist (which he still is.)
5 Apocalypse Can Do Just About Anything One Can Imagine
Like Mister Sinister, Apocalypse's litany of superhuman abilities seem to have been forgotten of late. Apocalypse is one of the most powerful individuals on Earth, but the recent X of Swords crossover only showcased En Sabah Nur swinging a sword around.
Apocalypse can grow to tremendous size, fire energy blasts, manipulate the world through telekinesis and teleportation, and is immensely strong. He also has a suit of Celestial armor which he can instantaneously change to any machine he can imagine--allowing Apocalypse to fly and teleport as well.
4 Venom Can Camouflage Himself To Be Completely Invisible
Venom has become more of a hero than a villain as of late, and that weirdly suits the character quite well. However, some of Venom's early abilities seem to have been lost in the transition.
Among them is Venom's ability to camouflage into his surroundings. This made him a deadly foe for Spider-Man, as Venom already muted Peter's Spidey-Sense. However, this seems to be an ability that Brock doesn't think to use, and Flash Thompson possibly didn't even know about it.
3 Magneto Can Produce Electromagnetic Blasts Of Pure Energy
In addition to flight and effortless control over all magnetic materials within vast distances, Magneto also has the ability to fire off bursts of electromagnetic energy.
This seems to work largely like the energy projections of Iron Man's repulsor gauntlets and Captain Marvel's photon blasts, albeit with more of a stunning effect thanks to the electricity. Magneto doesn't seem to use this power all that often, but it's devastating to his enemies when he does.
2 Absorbing Man Can Absorb Powers In Addition To Materials
The Absorbing Man was originally known for being able to turn his body into whatever material he touches. This has been a great boon when he's made contact with stone or metal, and it almost got him killed when he was tricked by Spider-Man into becoming cardboard.
However, Absorbing Man can also mimic powers. This seems to be due to his ability to completely mimic whatever material he is touching--including people. This makes him akin to the likes of Amazo and the Super-Adaptoid, but Crusher Creel requires physical touch to mimic powers.
1 Thanos Can Perform Telepathy And Might Be A Powerful Sorcerer
Thanos the Mad Titan is mainly known for his ability to project blasts of cosmic energy, his unfathomable strength and durability, and his hunger for artifacts of great reality-warping power. However, there have been times when the Mad Titan has also showcased the ability to use telepathy, such as when he got the Anti-Man to help free him from imprisonment by the Ultimates.
It's also Thanos lore that one of the reasons he is this powerful is due to self-experimentation through the use of grotesque technologies and dark magics. The latter implies that Thanos is actually capable of sorcery, but this has seemingly not been expanded upon in the history of the character.
