My Hero Academia: 10 Anime Characters Who'd Make a Better Support Hero Than Ochaco Uraraka

My Hero Academia's Quirk-based combat system ensures that there are heroes and villains of all kinds. A well-rounded team will have a few melee powerhouses or other offensive fighters, and there will also be room for support heroes, such as Mezo Shoji or the zero-gravity Ochaco Uraraka. Ochaco is a fine ally for Izuku, but what if she could be replaced with other anime characters?

Personal feelings aside, Izuku wouldn't mind a chance to meet other support-type anime heroes to join his team, especially for when he must face powerful foes such as Tomura Shigaraki and most of all, All For One. The world of anime has many mighty support characters, and Izuku had better recruit them before his final battle with All For One. He can't afford to hold back.

10 Shikamaru Is A Tactical Genius With A Shadow-Based Technique (Naruto)

Shikamaru Nara may be lazy and a bit stubborn, but he is also a tactical powerhouse and a skilled shinobi with a strong sense of duty and loyalty. It was Shikamaru who led the five-man team on that Sasuke retrieval mission, and he outwitted the Akatsuki when fighting the dreaded Hidan. He's a regular hero.

Shikamaru's shadow possession jutsu is the equivalent of a Quirk, and thus Shikamaru could easily integrate into any team that Izuku forms for a mission. And, of course, Shikamaru's strategic thinking and cool head would be massive assets.

9 Orihime Inoue Can Make Barriers & Heal Any Injury (Bleach)

Orihime Inoue is Ichigo's best friend, and while she may not be a smart tactician like Izuku or Shikamaru, she does have other talents. Orihime is brave and loyal as a friend, and her faith in her friends can be a powerful motivating tool. Then there's the matter of her Shun Shun Rikka abilities.

With her six fairies on hand, Orihime can make triangular magical barriers to protect herself and her allies, and she can also use those fairies to reverse or reject any phenomena that have taken place. Usually, this takes the form of healing, which leaves no scars or marks. Even lost limbs can be restored with ease, and all this could put Recovery Girl out of work.

8 Lucy Heartfilia Has A Celestial Spirit For Any Combat Scenario (Fairy Tail)

Lucy Heartfilia is a Celestial wizard, and while she can fight alone, she is better off serving as a supporting character for other fighters, such as Natsu Dragneel or Erza Scarlet. She has the heart of a hero and would gladly join any hero team that Izuku puts together.

Like Orihime, Lucy has the utmost faith in her friends, which can help keep a hero squad motivated. As for combat abilities, Lucy can use a handful of celestial spirits to back up Izuku, such as with Aquarius' water, Sagittarius' flaming arrows, and even Horologium's body for shelter.

7 Naofumi Iwatani Is A Classic Support Hero (The Rising Of The Shield Hero)

Although the shield hero Naofumi Iwatani found resourceful ways to become an offensive fighter during his adventures across Melromarc Kingdom, he is ultimately best suited for a support role, which was the idea all along. And he's had plenty of practice with coordinating his shields with the action of his teammates.

Naofumi's shields are effectively a defensive Quirk, not unlike Hekiji Tengai's Barrier Quirk in My Hero Academia, and melee heroes such as Izuku could really use some shields to watch their back while fighting the world's strongest villains.

6 Charon Can Perfectly Counter The Flame Villain Dabi (Fire Force)

Most characters in this shonen series have fire-based powers, and some of these powers, such as Charon's, only work when facing other fire-based abilities. That may sound rather narrow, but Izuku actually would have good use of Charon's powers in the fight against evil, and specifically against the fire-based villain Dabi.

Dabi's Quirk may be deadly, but Charon actually gets stronger from fire. In battle, Charon can use his second-generation pyrokinetic abilities to absorb heat and fire and convert it all into strength. Dabi will quickly be foiled if he took on Charon, and that would buy Izuku time to take down other villains.

5 Koichi Hirose's Echoes Stand Has Useful Sound-Based Abilities (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)

Many Stands in this franchise have narrow but creative abilities, and Stand users are adept at using those powers in highly resourceful and unconventional ways. Koichi Hirose is an ally of Josuke who makes good use of his Echoes Stand, and in some ways, it is actually Ochaco Uraraka's opposite.

Depending on its form, Echoes can use a wide variety of powers, one of which is greatly increasing the gravity of an object to trap it in place. This can easily keep villains at bay and allow Izuku to catch them, especially villains who rely on mobility to fight, such as Himiko Toga.

4 Merlin Has Many Mystic Spells In Her Arsenal (The Seven Deadly Sins)

The boar sin of gluttony, Merlin, is always hungry to obtain new knowledge and wisdom, and by now, her arsenal of spells and potions is truly astonishing. She can fight many foes solo, but she works best as a support wizard for allies such as the mighty Escanor or even the archangels.

Merlin can trap a few foes in unbreakable cubes, allowing Izuku to divide and conquer the League of Villains' members in battle. That, and Merlin can sense and tweak an enemy's elemental weaknesses, which can help if Izuku has Denki Kaminari or Shoto Todoroki in his team, too.

3 Appa Could Help Izuku Traverse Rough Terrain & Get A High Vantage Point (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

Not all powerful support characters are necessarily human. Avatar Aang's oldest friend is a sky bison named Appa, and this great shaggy beast has near-human intelligence and formidable airbending abilities to offer. Appa is a decent fighter, but that's not his primary contribution to a team.

Appa can easily float through the sky for hours at a time, acting like a fantasy helicopter for Aang and his fellows, and Izuku could easily navigate a rough battlefield or travel to the enemy's stronghold aboard this sky bison. And it would sure help to get a clear view of the terrain from up there, allowing Izuku to form his battle plans more easily.

2 Gluttony Can Sniff Out His Enemies & Heal His Wounds (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

It is true that the massive Gluttony is a villainous homunculus, but he is simply obeying Father's orders. If he were set free and taken to the My Hero Academia world, he might agree to work for Izuku if he is promised enough food as compensation.

Gluttony is an effective support character because of that sharp nose of his. He can sniff out anyone and track them like a bloodhound, and that could help Izuku avoid ambushes, track fleeing enemies, or sense incoming foes with little difficulty. And Gluttony can also act as a decent meat shield with his regenerative abilities.

1 Yahaba Can Redirect Anyone With His Arrows (Demon Slayer)

Yahaba is also a villain, but if he were offered compensation, he might help Izuku take on the League of Villains and put his intriguing ability to good use. Yahaba keeps his eyes closed because he has eyes on his hands instead, and there's a good reason the pupils are shaped like arrows.

When Yahaba activates his ability, he can make arrows that suddenly and forcefully move a target according to the arrow's direction. With this ability, Yahaba could keep villains away from Izuku or force them into the path of a powerful Smash attack. Yahaba could also watch Izuku's back and move Izuku aside if an enemy sneaks up on him during combat.
