New Dragon Ball Super Movie Reveals Title, New Animation Style

DEVELOPING - The next Dragon Ball Super movie finally has a title. Goku's next theatrical adventure will be titled Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and will feature a new animation style.

"We've got two "supers" in there, which is great," series producer Akio Iyoku said when asked about the movie's new title, adding "We really want to emphasize that this movie is about the superhero vibes." While no story details were given about the new movie, Iyoku revealed that the title is a hint to the tone of the film, saying, "[Dragon Ball creator Akira] Toriyama-san is really focusing on the superhero aspect this time as well." Norihiro Hayashida, the animation producer to the Dragon Ball Super series as well as the Dragon Ball Super: BROLY movie, said "I really want everyone to see what role the new characters play in the new movie."

The producers of the show say that the new animation style will allow for smoother movement and was put together using new technologies. While the brief teaser from the panel does not show an actual scene for the movie, it does depict Goku in this new animation style as the Saiyan warrior takes his iconic fighting stance. "We wanted to show what Goku will look like, his movement and feeling," Iyoku said. The movie's producers also hinted that fans who watch the trailer multiple times will get a better idea of what the new movie will look like. "We're trying new things, so we'd like you to watch many times to see what sort of ingenuity we're making it with," Hayashida said. When asked how the new animation style differed from the old one, Hayashida again encouraged fans to rewatch the short teaser. "I won't get into details today, but you'll notice if you watch many times," the animation producer said. Iyoku elaborated, saying "We only saw a brief moment, but the actual visual expression of Goku's moves and such... incorporate quite a lot of ingenuity using different technologies."

Masako Nozawa, who has provided the voice of Goku for over 35 years, approved of the new art style. "They might seem exaggerated at first glance, his movements may seem exaggerated, but there's very fine detail to it. I love to throw in some improvisations in those moments."

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero will be released sometime in 2022.
