The latest content update for New Pokémon Snap adds new areas for players to explore and a variety of new pocket monsters to shoot... with your camera, of course.
The incoming update will add three tracks and 20 additional Pokémon to New Pokémon Snap. The Pokémon Company explains that these are titled Mightwide River (Day/Night), Barren Badlands (Day/Night) and Secret Side Path (Day/Night). Standing out from the game's other tracks, Secret Side Path features a unique perspective where the player is shrunk down to a fraction of their original size to capture pictures of Pokémon from impossible angles. The areas are showcased in the game's latest trailer.
Beyond Secret Side Path, Mightywide River is "a nurturing water source that provides the whole of Belusylva Island with sustenance. You’ll be conducting research as you ride down the river, so be on the lookout for rapids as you search for Pokémon." As for the arid Barren Badlands, players can expect to find "many peculiar features, from geysers to poisonous, gas-spewing swamps." Of course, Pokémon will be all around, so better keep that head on a swivel.
"Across the three new areas, players will find a variety of Pokémon, including those already familiar from players’ journey across the Lental region as well as 20 more Pokémon that couldn’t be found before," reads the description provided by The Pokémon Company. The game's developer has yet to confirm what these Pokémon are but discovering them in the game is half the fun.
New Pokémon Snap launched for Nintendo Switch in April 2021 to generally positive reviews. Many critics praised the game for innovating on its predecessor while others criticized it for its often obtuse photography grading system.
If taking pictures in New Pokémon Snap doesn't quite scratch your pocket monster itch, you might want to check out Pokémon Unite. The Pokémon-themed MOBA recently launched on Nintendo Switch is making waves for its accessible yet strategic gameplay... if you can overlook the egregious microtransactions.
