Grier joins other recently announced Pet Sematary cast members, including Jackson White (Mrs. Fletcher), who will play the younger version of Jud Crandall, portrayed by John Lithgow in the 2019 film. Other cast members include Forrest Goodluck (The Republic of Sarah), Jack Mulhern (Mare of Easttown), Natalie Alyn Lind (The Gifted) and newcomer Isabella Star LeBlanc. The casting announcement did not reveal the actors' corresponding roles.

Paramount+'s Pet Sematary prequel film is based on the 2019 film adaptation of the 1983 horror novel by Stephen King, with screenwriter Jeff Buhler returning to pen the project and Linsey Beer to direct. Pet Sematary follows the story of a family who discovers the graveyard behind their house has a dark, mysterious power, capable of bringing the dead back to life.

While details about the prequel are scarce in its early development, Buhler has explained the avenues he would like to explore in the film, saying, "a lot of the ideas that we've been batting around currently, recently, have all been about, more about digging into the mythology of the town, these rituals that children present, the mythology of the Micmac, the Wendigo, the cemetery, the origins, Jud's life." He continued, "So it looks like, I don't want to promise anything, because we don't know, we're not even down the road on an idea yet."

The untitled sequel will premiere on Paramount+ and does not yet have a release date.
