While many of the 28 seasons of Power Rangers feature new Rangers, villains, and overall aesthetic, there are many characteristics that fans have come to expect from each installment. In order for it to be considered Power Rangers, it must have teenage protagonists, Zords, and most importantly, explosions. But one surprise every season has taken advantage of is the “Sixth Ranger.”
The original “Sixth Ranger” was Tommy Oliver, a.k.a. the Green Ranger, who joined the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers' other five members, Jason, Trini, Kimberly, Zack, and Billy. Since then, each season has had its own “Sixth Ranger” though this isn’t always just one additional member or even a Ranger at all. In Power Rangers Lost Galaxy, the Magna Defender isn’t technically a Ranger though it fills the role of the “Sixth Ranger.” Similarly, Power Rangers Jungle Fury adds 3 “Sixth Rangers” known as the Spirit Rangers.

He succeeds in defeating the Rangers with the use of his Dragonzord, but when the Sword of Darkness is destroyed during a fight with the Red Ranger, Tommy is freed from Rita's control.
Tommy fights alongside the other Rangers but ultimately must sacrifice his powers at the beginning of Season 2 in order to defeat the Dark Rangers.

22 White (Ninja) Ranger (Tommy Oliver) - The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (S3)
Season 3 saw the Rangers lose their powers and Thunderzords due to Rita’s brother Rito Revolto. After finding Ninjor, the creator of the original Power Coins, they gained Ninja Ranger powers.
Tommy became the White Ninja Rangers and controlled the Falconzord as well as the White Shogunzord.
21 Gold Ranger (Trey of Triforia & Jason Lee Scott) - Power Rangers Zeo (S4)

At the start of the series the "Sixth Ranger" was Trey of Triforia, a Lord from a distant planet but after crash landing on the planet Aquitar, Trey was unable to morph into the Gold Ranger and the team was forced to find a replacement.
Billy’s body rejected the powers and Tommy recruited Jason, the original Red Ranger, who successfully became the temporary Gold Ranger. The Gold Ranger is equipped with the Golden Power Staff and the Pyramidas Zord.
20 Phantom Ranger - Power Rangers Turbo (S5)
The mysterious Phantom Ranger comes from Zordon’s home planet of Eltar. After arriving on Earth, he helps the Turbo Rangers as they take on the Divatox, the Intergalactic Pirate Queen of Evil.
