Promare and Little Twin Stars Come Together In Unlikely Collaboration

A new line of merchandise has been announced that combines the colorful action of studio Trigger's Promare with the soft pastels and cute designs of Sanrio's Little Twin Stars.

The new line of keychains, towels, tote bags and other accessories was released exclusively to Japan's The Chara Shop and feature Promare heroes Galo and Lio interacting with Kiki and Lala from Sanrio's popular Little Twin Stars line of products. The designs on the new line of accessories were created by Trigger's Shigeto Koyama, who served as character designer on the Promare movie. The Promare X Little Twin Stars collaboration will only be available until July 13, and customers who purchase more than 3,000 yen worth of merchandise will be entered into a contest to win exclusive cushions or bromides decorated with art by Koyama.

Promare is a 2019 anime film by Trigger, the animation studio that also produced Kill La Kill and SSSS. Gridman. The feature-length anime was directed by the co-founder of the studio, Hiroyuki Imaishi, who previously directed Gurren Lagann and served as a key animator on Neon Genesis Evangelion during his time at Gainax. The movie was written by veteran anime editor and writer Kazuki Nakashima, who is best known for his work on the long-running Getter Robo series, and who previously collaborated with Imaishi on Gurren Lagann and Kill La Kill. The film has a 97% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was lauded by critics for its visually impressive animation and kinetic action.

GKIDS is the distributor for Promare in North America. In addition to releasing the movie on DVD and Blu-ray, GKIDS gave the film a limited theatrical run in select theaters, which generated over $2 million USD at the box office. The movie was scheduled to be re-released in theaters in April 2020 with additional material, but its encore theatrical run was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Promare is now available for streaming on HBO Max.
