Rumor has it the live-action Ahsoka series found its Ezra Bridger and Grand Admiral Thrawn.
According to LRM Online, Mena Massoud and Lars Mikkelsen are set to portray Ezra and Thrawn on The Mandalorian spinoff series. It's worth noting both actors are favorites to play these respective roles, which makes it all the harder to gauge whether this rumor is based on solid intel or closer to an educated guess.
The Ahsoka series will center on the former Jedi's hunt for Thrawn, building on her appearance during The Mandalorian Season 2. Last time audiences saw him during the Star Wars Rebels series finale, a pack of purrgil were pulling the feared Imperial military commander and Jedi padawan Ezra into hyperspace. Picking up after the Battle of Endor, the episode's prologue saw Ahsoka teaming up with Sabine Wren to search for Ezra in the hopes of bringing their friend home to Lothal.
Massoud, who broke out after starring in Disney's live-action Aladdin remake in 2019, hinted that he had been cast as the live-action Ezra earlier this year after quoting the character on social media. About four weeks prior to that, a separate report claimed Massoud was the top choice for the role but had yet to enter an official agreement with Disney and Lucasfilm.
Whereas Ezra originated on the animated Rebels series, Thrawn began as a villain in the old Star Wars Expanded Universe (AKA Star Wars Legends) before being re-incorporated into the franchise's post-Disney continuity. Because Mikkelsen voices the animated version of Thrawn, he's long been perceived as the front-runner to play the character on the live-action Ahsoka show. It wouldn't be the first time a voice actor on a Star Wars animated series reprised their role in live-action, either. Previously, Katee Sackhoff voiced the animated version of Bo-Katan Kryze before portraying the character in live-action for The Mandalorian.
Produced by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, the Ahsoka series stars Rosario Dawson and will stream on Disney+. However, with The Book of Boba Fett, Andor, and Obi-Wan Kenobi shows all slated to premiere first (along with, possibly, The Mandalorian Season 3), it may be some time before Lucasfilm makes any additional casting announcements.
