Sweet Tooth: 10 Familiar Faces Behind The Characters (& Where You Know Them From)

Sweet Tooth is the latest Netflix obsession gluing audiences worldwide to their screens. Adapted from the DC/Vertigo comic of the same name written and drawn by Jeff Lemire, the show takes place in a dystopian future where most of humanity has been wiped out by a worldwide pandemic. In their place rises a new breed of human/animal hybrids, including a half-deer boy named Gus.

Per TVLine, the show crossed 1.4 billion minutes viewed in just eight episodes, topping the American streaming viewing charts upon release. Much of the success and praise has been credited to the cast, who while not stacked with major names, is filled with familiar faces.

10 Christian Convery Was In Venom

At 11-years old, Christian Convery enters his first starring role by playing Gus for Sweet Tooth. Obviously, this is his biggest acting role to date, but that is not to say that he hasn't already had a few milestones during his still-growing career.

Among those milestones is his small role alongside Tom Hardy as Joey in Venom. That same year, Convery got to share the screen with Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet as Jasper in Beautiful Boy. It's worth noting that he's about to share the screen with even more stars, co-starring with Dennis Quaid, Queen Latifah, and Katharine McPhee in The Tiger Rising, which is currently in post-production.

9 Nonso Anozie Was In Game Of Thrones

Playing the part of Tommy Jepperd and serving as one of the main leads is a huge leap for Nonso Anozie's career. Anozie has spent most of his career thus far not playing anything much bigger than a supporting role. His most recognizable role prior to Sweet Tooth came from playing Xaro Xhoan Daxos in Game of Thrones.

He was also one of the lead characters of CBS' Zoo, but considering that show only lasted three seasons before cancellation, it's safe to say not many people watched him there or watched the show at all. Starring in a Netflix series could prove to be a breakout role for bigger things.

8 Adeel Akhtar Was In Enola Holmes

Adeel Akhtar is slowly carving a major career for himself on Netflix. Outside of playing Dr. Aditya Singh in Sweet Tooth, the actor's biggest performances thus far have come from his recent appearances in Netflix original productions. This would include his supporting turn as Lestrade in Enola Holmes.

Outside of Netflix, he's had appearances in notable movies like Four Lions, The Big Sick, and 2020's The Nest. In television, he's had a recurring role in the popular AMC/BBC series Killing Eve, but he is especially remembered for his two BAFTA-nominated performances in Utopia and Murdered by My Father. He won for the latter.

7 Stefania LaVie Owen Was In Krampus

As was the case with Christian Convery, Stefanie LaVie Owen is another relatively unknown child actor who doesn't yet have much acting experience to her name before playing the founder of the Animal Army, Bear. However, that is not to say that Owen has no acting experience whatsoever.

The 23-year old New Zealand actor started her career in 2009 appearing in The Lovely Bones. Since then, she's found herself in televised recurring roles in I'm Dying Up Here, The Carrie Diaries, and Chance, as well as sporadic appearances in major Hollywood productions like Krampus.

6 Dania Ramirez Was In X-Men: The Last Stand

While not quite a household name, Dania Ramirez has popped up in enough places that she'll look familiar to the average viewer long before playing Sweet Tooth's Aimee. It's likely that the first place most viewers saw Dania Ramirez was when she was Callisto, a member of Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants in X-Men: The Last Stand.

From there, she joined the cast of Lifetime's Devious Maids as Rosie Falta and then was made into a Disney Princess when she played Cinderella in the seventh season of Once Upon a Time.

5 Neil Sandilands Was In The Flash

Even before popping up on Netflix as General Abbott, television acting has been Neil Sandilands' bread and butter since first beginning his career in 1991. He's had memorable recurring roles on Hap and Leonard, The Americans, and The 100, as well as memorable one-off guest roles on House and NCIS.

He hadn't had a true breakout performance until he joined the main cast of The Flash back in the show's fourth season, playing that season's main antagonist, The Thinker. His career has been off to the races ever since.

4 Sarah Peirse Was In The Hobbit Trilogy

The role of Dr. Gladys Bell is a little bit bigger than the roles typically filled by Sarah Peirse. More often than not, Peirse can be found in smaller supporting roles, like the recurring role she has in Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy, playing Hilda Bianca in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

This wouldn't be the first time that Peter Jackson would direct Sarah Peirse. He previously worked with Peirse when she played Honora Parker Rieper, mother to Melanie Lynskey's Pauline, in Heavenly Creatures.

3 Andrew Laing Was In Power Rangers

Over the course of the past decade or so, Andrew Laing has carved out a career for himself as a voice actor for the Power Rangers franchise, so there aren't many places readers would have actually seen him in the flesh. However, he first broke into show business by playing Dr. Geoff Greenlaw on Shortland Street, for those New Zealand soap opera enthusiasts out there.

More recently, besides playing Bob in Sweet Tooth, Laing has provided different voices for the Power Rangers franchise as far back as 2004's Power Rangers Dino Thunder, but his voice is most recognizable to Rangers fans as the voice of Evox/Venjix in both Power Rangers Beast Morphers and Power Rangers RPM.

2 Amy Seimetz Was In Pet Sematary

Amy Seimetz is something of a jack of all trades, being an actor, writer, director, producer, and even an editor. Some of her biggest success so far in her career has come behind the camera. She's earned acclaim for directing Sun Don't Shine, She Dies Tomorrow, and the series The Girlfriend Experience.

In front of the camera though, her most high-profile appearance came from starring in the 2019 adaptation of Stephen King's Pet Sematary, while acting opposite Jason Clarke as Rachel and Dr. Louis Creed. Now, she's Birdie on Sweet Tooth.

1 Will Forte Was The Last Man On Earth

Will Forte has the distinction of being the sole big-name actor in a sea of relatively unknown faces within the cast. Before he took on the role of Pubba, there are plenty of movies and TV shows that readers may have seen him in - like 30 Rock, Nebraska, MacGruber, etc. - but he is most likely to be recognized for his three-time Emmy nominated starring turn in The Last Man on Earth.

As Phil, Forte plays a man who spends two years being presumably the last person alive after a virus wiped out the entire planet, until suddenly, unexpected survivors start to arrive.
