The X-Men's New Series Will Change the Marvel Universe... Again

The first official X-Men team of the Krakoa era will result in another massive change to the Marvel Universe.

When CBR asked X-Men writer Gerry Duggan what type of threats the new team will face, the scribe teased how the Marvel Universe will be changed yet again following its first 12 issues. "Blowback. There is always blowback," Duggan said. "The first 12 issues are pretty carefully constructed to tell the biggest X-Men story we could conceive of. The X-Men are going to change the universe... again."

"This book is going to be ginormous and fun, but we're pulling on some very important story threads," he continued. "New enemies will come into dangerous orbits, and matters will boil over in this book and affect the entire Marvel Universe. It's been a privilege to be asked to have this much fun. I've never had an idea that wasn't made better by Jonathan, our editors, and of course Pepe [Larraz]. We have big stuff planned -- hope you survive the experience!"

Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Polaris, Sunfire, Rogue, Wolverine (Laura Kinney) and Synch are the X-Men's official front-facing superhero team. Marvel allowed fans to vote on who they wanted to see added as the team's final member, with Polaris winning the vote. The team was unveiled during the Hellfire Gala, which concluded with the X-Men discovering the lifeless body of Scarlet Witch.

As for X-Men #1, it relocated the team back to New York, introduced the X-Men's new base of operations (the Treehouse) and saw them defeat an oversized cosmic invader.

X-Men #1 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
