Vivy Designer Loundraw Makes Directorial Debut in Summer Ghost

Acclaimed illustrator loundraw will make their directorial debut with Summer Ghost, a new anime short which will be released this fall.

loundraw may be best known to Western audiences for their work on the critically lauded anime series Vivy - Fluorite Eye's Song -. The illustrator has also worked on movies such as 2018's I Want To Eat Your Pancreas and the recently released Josee, The Tiger and The Fish. loundraw will also provide character designs for Summer Ghost, while the studio they established in 2019, Flat Studio, will handle animation duties for the short. Horror author Otsuichi wrote the screenplay for the short. Otsuichi is also collaborating with artist Yoshitaka Amano on Netflix's upcoming exclusive anime series, Exception. Moriarty the Patriot and Gundam Build Divers voice actor Chiaki Kobayashi will voice one of the lead characters in the film.

Summer Ghost tells the story of a trio of troubled teens who only know each other from the internet, but meet-up in-person after they decide to investigate the urban legend of the Summer Ghost together. The Summer Ghost is reportedly the spirit of a girl that only appears in the area when it hears fireworks.

An international release date for Summer Ghost has not yet been announced. Vivy - Fluorite Eye's Song, which loundraw provided character designs for, is currently available for streaming on Funimation. Josee, The Tiger and The Fish recently completed its limited engagement in North American theaters and currently has a 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
