5 DC Characters Kate Bishop Would Be Friends With (& 5 She Would Hate)

Since her debut in 2005's Young Avengers, Kate Bishop has had an increasing number of characters in the Marvel Universe that she can call teammate or friend. Those characters include other Avengers, X-Men, and questionable anti-heroes.

But while Kate gets along very well with a wide variety of Marvel characters, it is reasonable to wonder if she would be able to do the same in the DC Universe. Fortunately, Kate's personality has been pretty well defined, and it is easy to determine which characters she would be friends with in the DC Universe, and which she would hate.

10 FRIEND: She Would Respect Black Canary's Expertise & Personality

When Kate Bishop was attempting to help the Young Avengers the first time, she stole Mockingbird's mask in order to protect her secret identity. Kate was not only a fan of the original Hawkeye, but of Mockingbird as well.

Black Canary shares a lot in common with Mockingbird. Not only are the two of them attracted to temperamental archers, but they both are extremely competent hand-to-hand fighters. Black Canary has held her own in fights against Superman, Cheshire, and Green Lantern. With the addition of her "Canary Cry," Black Canary is one of the most difficult Justice League members to beat. In the same way that Kate looked up to Mockingbird's ability to handle herself in a fight, Kate would also respect Black Canary.

9 HATE: She Would Bristle Under Jay Garrick's Idea Of Mentorship

Jay Garrick, along with the other senior members of the Justice Society of America, once told Shazam that he could not date Courtney Whitmore due to their age differences. Of course, at the time, Jay was unaware of the fact that Shazam was truly Billy Batson, a teenager who was actually Courtney's age. But Jay and the other leaders of the JSA also didn't ask, they simply stepped in directly and interfered.

Kate was originally given the mantle of Hawkeye by Captain America in part because she did not agree to the terms that he dictated for her team. In Captain America's eyes, Kate was living up to the reputation Clint Barton had always had of rejecting Captain America's authority. If a Hawkeye can't handle being told what to do by Captain America, she definitely isn't going to take well to the idea of being told who she can date by Jay Garrick.

8 FRIEND: She'd Respect Connor Hawke's Calm Demeanor & Skill

Although Connor Hawke shares his archery skill with his father, Oliver Queen, the two of them could not be more different in terms of temperament. Connor grew up in an ashram, where he learned to control his rage. Although Oliver himself had visited the same ashram, Oliver never developed the ability to restrain his emotional outbursts. Connor made the most of his stay and grew into a stable friend and noble hero. He also was labeled one of the best fighters in the DC Universe by Batman himself.

Although Kate's temper is often more like Oliver's than Connor's, she would respect the serenity that Connor uses in his daily life. The fact that he is able to combine that calm with advanced martial arts and decent archery skills would be intriguing to Kate, because there are few other characters like Connor Hawke in her universe. It would definitely be the case of "opposites attract" as the two of them came to know one another.

7 HATE: Oliver Queen Would Not Measure Up To Clint Barton

Clint Barton was someone Kate looked up to as a child, and when she grew up and had the pleasure of knowing him, they became friends. Kate and Clint have saved each other's lives multiple times. No matter what Clint is doing to irritate Kate at the moment, she knows that he is someone she can count on to be there when she needs him.

In looking at Oliver Queen, Kate would likely not see the friendly mentor that Clint has grown to be in her life. Instead, she would likely see an archer with all of Clint's potential and all of Clint's worst traits. The ability to walk away, to get angry without reason and to disappoint those that love him, are all present in Oliver and Clint— but Oliver has several other failings that frequently overshadow his own attempts at being a hero. For example, as someone with a terrible father herself, Kate would have difficulty overlooking Oliver's history of abandoning Roy and Connor.

6 FRIEND: Jaime Reyes Would Remind Her Of Her Young Avengers Friends

Jaime Reyes just wants to love his family and also save the world. Of all the friendships that Kate could possibly make in the DC Universe, the friendship with Jaime would perhaps be the easiest to make. Jaime shares many of the same character traits as Kate's dear friends, Billy Kaplan and Teddy Altman. Like Billy and Teddy, Jaime gets wrapped up in universe-saving plots that should be over his head, but he is still able to save the day with guidance and support from his friends and loved ones.

Considering that in one version of the future, Billy and Teddy name their daughter after Kate, it is safe to say that they are some of her closest friends. She'd instantly recognize the similarities that Jaime had with her friends, and a new friendship would grow for both of them.

5 HATE: Hawkman's Demands Would Get On Her Nerves

At best, the JSA's most recent portrayals of Hawkman have resulted in a challenging personality for the seasoned superhero. He often demands that his point of view be listened to above all others, and his overall view of teamwork can be summed up with the "my way or the highway" philosophy. Even the easiest-going of the DC superheroes have had difficulty working alongside Hawkman thanks to his personality.

Kate has a very dynamic personality herself, and she is used to working in groups of heroes where individual wants are placed aside in order to achieve the greater good. She would not appreciate his self-appointed authority, and their conflicting personalities would most likely result in Kate hating Hawkman.

4 FRIEND: Cassandra Cain's Determination & Ability To Overcome Would Win Kate Over

Cassandra Cain has not had an easy life. Born the daughter of two assassins, she was denied the right to learn how to speak by David Cain, who believed it would only make her a better warrior. While Cassandra grew to be one of the best fighters in the DC Universe, her greatest win was breaking free of her father's control and determining her own path as a hero.

Kate understands having a terrible father, as her own dad turned out to be a supervillain. Not only would she be able to feel empathy for Cassandra's position, she would also respect the journey that Cassandra had to make to get away from her father. The two would be a formidable duo in battle, in case either of their fathers decided to get in the way.

3 HATE: Beast Boy's Attitude Towards Women Would Not Win Him Points With Kate

Although Beast Boy is often portrayed as an integral part of the Teen Titans, his comic book version has some attitudes towards women that go far beyond the friendly kid that is seen on the television show. He is often overly flirtatious, to the point where women are not especially comfortable with his attempts. Though these attempts at flirting are seen as fun and lighthearted from his perspective, the women he flirts with don't always see it that way.

Kate is a survivor of sexual assault, and it is quite unlikely that she would find continual attempts at flirting to be charming. This is particularly true when the flirting comes from someone who is supposed to be one of the good guys.

2 FRIEND: Wonder Woman Would Be A Natural Mentor

When Kate made her debut, she was skilled in swords, archery and martial arts. She wanted additional training, yet few in the Marvel Universe wanted to train her due to her age.

Wonder Woman hails from a land that embraces teaching about swordsmanship, archery and hand-to-hand combat. All the training that Kate could ever want to receive would be freely offered, and Kate would love it.

1 HATE: Kate Will Have Nothing But Contempt For Deathstroke's Problematic Past

Kate has worked with people of questionable reputations before, namely Deadpool. She was able to get along with Deadpool and achieve their joint goals together, and she seemed to genuinely consider him a friend after a while. She would not have the same attitude towards Deathstroke.

While both Wade Wilson and Slade Wilson are mercenaries for hire, Wade Wilson has certain moral standards. Deathstroke manipulated a 15-year-old girl into doing his bidding, while also entering into an inappropriate physical relationship with her. Kate would rightfully hate Slade for this reason alone, never mind all his other issues.
