Adventure Time: Distant Lands Announces Final Special for September

Wizard City, the fourth and final special in the Adventure Time: Distant Lands anthology series, is officially slated to arrive on HBO Max early next month.

Adventure Time: Distant Lands - Wizard City premieres on Thursday, Sept. 2. The special follows Peppermint Butler as he "starts a new life as just another inexperienced wizard school student. But when mysterious events around campus cast suspicion on Pep and his checkered past, can he master the mystic arts in time to prove his innocence?"

Created by Pendleton Ward, Adventure Time originally ran on Cartoon Network for 283 episodes across 10 seasons from 2010 to 2018. The fan-favorite cartoon returned in 2020 in the form of Distant Lands, a series of four hour-long specials produced by Cartoon Network Studios and distributed by HBO Max. These specials take viewers to previously unexplored corners of the Adventure Time universe.

The first Distant Lands special, BMO, premiered on HBO Max on June 25, 2020. The second special, Obsidian, followed suit a few months later on Nov. 19, 2020. The third and most recent special, Together Again, arrived earlier this year on May 20. However, even as Distant Lands nears its conclusion with Wizard City on Sept. 2, HBO Max isn't done with Adventure Time just yet.

It was recently confirmed that HBO Max had ordered 10 episodes of Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, a spinoff series centered around the characters of, well, Fionna and Cake, who are gender-swapped versions of the original Adventure Time's main protagonists, Finn and Jake. A pair of in-universe fictional characters created by the Ice King, Fionna and Cake were originally introduced back in 2011, during Adventure Time Season 3.
