TIME Studios, in collaboration with the Fortnite Creative Community, is hosting an immersive digital experience to celebrate the legacy of Nobel Peace Prize recipient Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The event, titled "March Through Time" will transport players 60 years into the past to a reimagined Washington DC, built entirely within Fortnite. This iteration, named D.C. 63, sports several recreations of iconic landmarks like the Lincoln Memorial and the United States National Mall. Players will be able to witness MLK's groundbreaking "I Have a Dream" speech while learning more about the influential Civil Rights Movement leader.
"The Experience will also feature museum-inspired points of interest and quests you can complete with other players. These quests should bring an important reminder that relates to Dr. King’s speech: We move forward when we work together," reads the official description of the event. Players eho complete the Dr. King and Civil Rights movement challenges will unlock a D.C. 63 spray.
“TIME Studios’ mission is to embrace innovative new formats to tell the world’s most impactful stories. We are thrilled to introduce our first-ever gaming experience and expand our groundbreaking The March project, which started as an immersive exhibit, into the global, educational event March Through Time in Fortnite Creative,” said president of TIME Studios Ian Orefice.
While some may be puzzled by the experience, this isn't the first time Fortnite has organized an event to support a social cause. In 2020, Epic Games collaborated with ØPUS UNITED to host "We The People x More Than A Vote," an event that featured several prominent athletes and entertainers speaking out against the voter suppression crisis impacting many Black communities in the United States.
"Civil Rights is a struggle we still fight for to this day, and it has benefited from the collective efforts of millions of people around the world," reads the event description. "We hope the March Through Time experience inspires the community to promote mutual respect and empathy towards all people no matter their race, religion, or orientation."
The brief trailer for "March Through Time" says that the experience is available to "explore now" for all Fortnite players. The game is available on most major platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
