Galactus’ Forgotten Herald Is More Dangerous Than Silver Surfer

Marvel's celestial Devourer of Worlds known as Galactus is as famous for his heralds as he is own awesome power. Needing help in scouring the universe for suitable planets to consume, Galactus has brought a large number of beings into his service. The most famous of these proclaimed "heralds" is the Silver Surfer, the first to serve Galactus. Among those who were gifted the Power Cosmic to aid Galactus was one who stands out for the remorseless way in which he performed his duty. Debuting in 1992's Silver Surfer #69 by Ron Marz, Kevin West, Tom Christopher, and Tom Vincent, Morg is arguably the most dangerous being to ever serve Galactus.

Morg's origins are simple, yet fitting for one of his nature. Born on a planet locked in medieval warfare, Morg was a royal executioner. He relished his job and performed it without conscious or pity. The day that Galactus appeared on his world, Morg faced the Devourer and refused to submit. Morg raised his weapon in defiance and was willing to die fighting against a force infinitely more powerful than himself. Impressed with Morg's bravery and ferocity, Galactus imbued him with a portion of his power, and thus gained a new herald.

Morg was unique in Galactus's eyes as he lacked the issues of empathy and morality that plagued his previous heralds. Silver Surfer and Nova (Frankie Raye) made it a point to search for planets devoid of life for Galactus to feed upon, while Morg would find planets bursting with life for his master to consume. It was on the planet Bastion that Morg discovered the Well of Life, a power source that increased his cosmic-level powers even more. The dark herald's ruthlessness and terrifying power was what eventually led Silver Surfer to battle him. Morg defeated Silver Surfer and left him horribly weakened in the depths of space. Knowing that Morg needed to be stopped for the sake of all life in the universe, Silver Surfer recruited many of Galactus's ex-Heralds to help stop the crazed herald including Nova, Air-Walker, Firelord, and Terrax. Morg killed Nova in the resulting battle but was defeated ultimately by Terrax who stripped him of his executioner's axe.

Galactus resurrected Morg but with a lower power level to help prevent another battle between heralds. Morg was allowed to search for his axe but was captured by the cosmic villain Tyrant during his travels. Tyrant attempted to pervert Morg and turn him against Galactus, but the herald remained loyal to his master. Morg managed to escape and return to Galactus as a herald before he set off for revenge against Tyrant. Wielding the Ultimate Nullifier, the most powerful weapon in the universe, both the herald and his opponent were caught in a powerful blast that appeared to destroy them both. Years later it was revealed that Morg had survived the power of the Ultimate Nullifer only to be vivisected by Annihilus during his invasion of the positive universe during the Annihilation event.

It takes a staggering amount of power to stand out among a number of god-like entities that pass judgement on entire worlds. The very characteristic that made Morg so appealing to Galactus was also the same characteristic that made him so irrevocably dangerous. Morg's reverence of death and destruction was so great that he was labeled a universal class threat by multiple entities in the universe.

Morg hasn't been seen since the brief, yet dark revelation of his ultimate fate during Annihilation, but few things are ever permanent within the vast expanses of space. There may yet be a day when Morg is once again resurrected, and the cosmic executioner is once again released into the cosmos.
