Girlfriend, Girlfriend: 5 Reasons Naoya Should Choose Saki (& Why He Should Choose Nagisa)

In Girlfriend, Girlfriend, protagonist Naoya finds himself in a sticky situation after he starts dating Saki, because Nagisa confesses to him shortly afterward. Naoya, realizing that he's also interested in Nagisa, proposes a possible solution: he, Nagisa, and Saki will all date each other secretly.

The concept of the anime alone was enough for fans to start rooting for Naoya to either end up with Nagisa or Saki. Some fans even think that Nagisa and Saki themselves should just get together. As of the time of this writing, Girlfriend, Girlfriend is currently airing its first season. No matter how the series resolves this relationship situation, there are many good reasons why Naoya should choose Saki or Nagisa.

10 Saki Has Known Naoya Longer Than Nagisa

No matter how sweet and likable Nagisa is, some fans argued that Saki should be with Naoya in the long run because they started dating each other first and, as they're childhood friends, they've known each other for longer. Naoya even confessed his feelings to Saki every year, no matter how many times he was rejected.

Even when Saki temporarily fled to her own house after her jealousy overwhelmed her, Naoya tried to talk to her and clear things out. Both of them knew each other very well regarding what they like and generally want. Due to these connections, it would make sense if they ended up together in the end.

9 Nagisa Is An Excellent Cook

One way to a person's heart is through their stomach, and Nagisa's extremely appetizing dishes proved this point. She made a beautiful bento box for Naoya when she first confessed to him, and it's obvious that she put a lot of time and effort into making these dishes. Even Saki, a great chef herself, adored Nagisa's cooking. Many romantic relationships in anime involve the partners cooking for each other, and it never hurts to have that food be delicious.

8 Saki Is The More Practical One Between Her And Nagisa

Nagisa might be great at cooking, but Saki is more practical when it comes to handling wild situations. When Rika lied about wanting to be Naoya's third girlfriend because she thought it was about time to have a boyfriend as is, Saki immediately called her out and warned Naoya about easily falling for it.

Saki is also quick to come up with obvious solutions to solve some issues. When Rika tried to camp on the balcony of the house where Naoya, Nagisa, and Saki live together, Saki immediately suggested calling the police to get rid of her.

7 Nagisa Helps Out Naoya When Things Get Rough

When Saki temporarily fled the house she, Naoya and Nagisa shared, Nagisa was quick to console Naoya and stay by his side, even when he tried getting Saki back to talk to him. When all of his attempts failed over three sleepless nights, Nagisa willingly took one for the team and made Naoya grab her in front of Saki while confronting each other on separate balconies. This made Saki leap over her balcony onto theirs, thus forcing Naoya and Saki to talk things out afterward. Nagisa clearly cared for Naoya and wanted him to be happy, even if it placed her in some strange situations.

6 Saki Does Her Best To Help Everyone She Cares For

Saki might not be as great at handling house chores as Nagisa, but she tries her best to help others in her own way. She tried making dinner for everyone at one point and even did her best to look out for Nagisa and Naoya when the three were trying to keep their romantic relationship a secret at school.

It's also thanks to Saki (and Nagisa) recognizing Rika as the MeTuber Milika that they outsmarted her initial blackmailing attempt when she discovered the three of them together. If it wasn't for Saki being so careful and considerate, the relationship might have ended as soon as it began.

5 Nagisa Doesn't Get Easily Jealous

Both Saki and Nagisa have their moments in the series where they are insecure about themselves in the relationship they have with Naoya. However, Nagisa is much less quick to be jealous of others than Saki is.

While Saki often worried about Nagisa and Naoya being together, Nagisa already accepted that Naoya will likely choose either her or Saki to be with in the long run. Many fans appreciated Nagisa understanding that their situation would inevitably have its ups and downs, and her being kind toward Saki also helped.

4 Saki Has A Better Idea Of What She Wants In A Relationship

Saki started dating Naoya with the initial expectation that they would be faithful to just each other. After Naoya proposed that he, Nagisa, and Saki all should date each other, Saki initially refused. This is because she knew what she wanted going into her relationship with Naoya. She wanted to eventually get to further intimacy with him and be by his side long-term.

Saki made it clear initially that a three-way relationship was not what she wanted. Even though she changed her mind later, it's obvious that she wanted this relationship to eventually become monogamous at some point. Being clear about what one wants in a relationship is helpful for everyone involved, and fans appreciated Saki's honesty as a whole.

3 Nagisa Is Initially Nicer To Saki Than Vice-Versa

When Nagisa, Saki, and Naoya initially started living together, there were several misunderstandings between the three of them. Nagisa tried to get to know Saki, but Saki was fairly cold towards her. Nagisa's general kindness towards others (even if they're dating the same person) is a boon for anyone looking to be in a relationship. It's good to know that the person you're dating is kind and treats others well.

Thanks to Nagisa's efforts, she and Saki do bond a bit in the series. This prompted some fans to hope that they'll just date each other instead and dump Naoya altogether in the end.

2 Saki Is Faster At Coming Up With Solutions Than Nagisa

When trouble strikes, Saki often is the one that sorts things out. When Rika tried seducing Naoya by living in a tent on his balcony and showering in front of him, Saki took the initiative and persuaded Nagisa to wear swimsuits with her to seduce Naoya together. Not all of Saki's solutions were the best thought-out or executed, but she at least is faster with coming up with ways to solve any issues at hand, which can be handy in a pinch.

1 Nagisa Is Quick To Admit Her Own Faults When Something Goes Wrong

When Nagisa tried looking into Saki's phone when she was asleep, Nagisa was quick to confess when Saki realized that her phone was in Nagisa's hands (even though Naoya shortly took the blame for her afterward). Additionally, Nagisa admits that she isn't perfect. For instance, because she spent so much time learning to cook on top of other activities that would make her appealing to Naoya, she neglected her own schoolwork. Nagisa's honesty about her own faults is a good part of any relationship, including hers with Naoya.
