Marvel: The 10 Biggest Fights Between Former Allies In The Comics

Superheroes are known for their arch-rivalries with powerful supervillains capable of destroying everything they hold dear. Many superhero fights occur when they first meet, often a misunderstanding leads to fighting in a similar manner to Thor fighting Iron Man and Captain America in 2012's The Avengers.

10 Captain America Knocked Out Wolverine

Wolverine allied with the Avengers in Avengers vs. X-Men, but that didn't mean he didn't square off against members of his own team. Wolverine was ordered to stay behind because he planned to kill the young Hope Summers rather than capture her if the Phoenix Force possessed her.

9 Daredevil Was Namor's Most Worthy Opponent

When Namor ends up being arrested and dealing with the legal system of the surface world, he hires Matt Murdock as his lawyer. However, trouble in Atlantis causes Namor to break free, putting law enforcement in danger. Matt stands in his way in order to protect innocent lives and gives Namor everything he has. Though Daredevil technically lost, Namor notes that he has fought many other heroes before, but Matt was the most worthy opponent of all, even without powers.

8 Spider-Man Had To Match Wolverine's Brutality

Whenever Spider-Man and Wolverine have an adventure together, it is usually a strange one. While Ned and Peter are in Germany investigating assassinations tied to the intelligence agent Charlemagne, Wolverine is there investigating as well as Charlemagne is an old lover of his. Logan is left with no choice but to put an end to Charlemagne, but Peter intervenes at the last minute, causing Logan to fly into a rage. While Wolverine is going berserk, Spider-Man has to fight for his life, realizing he has no choice but to go all out and beat Wolverine into submission.

7 Rouge And Carol Danvers Have A Complicated History

Carol Danvers and Rouge have been rivals for many years in the comics after Rogue absorbed Carol's memories when she had difficulty controlling her powers. They have gone from enemies to uneasy allies, but they have still had a few battles in the time in between. Carol tries to bridge the gap despite their uncomfortable past when the Avengers and X-Men were fighting over the Phoenix Force. Rogue refuses to listen, and a huge battle takes place between the two. Rogue's guilt over the past allowed them to put their differences aside, though trusting each other would take a lot of work.

6 Thor And Beta Ray Bill Are Equals

When Beta Ray Bill was found worthy of wielding Mjolnir, Odin declared Thor and Beta Ray Bill would have to fight in a duel to ultimately decide who was worthy of wielding the hammer. Both evenly matched, Thor and Beta Ray Bill fought each other to a draw. However, Beta Ray Bill saved Thor from falling to his death, proving himself worthy of being a hero just as much as Thor. Odin decided that both heroes were worthy and allowed Thor to keep Mjolnir while Beta Ray Bill was awarded Stormbreaker that was imbued with the same power.

5 Captain America Held Off Thor

When the realm of Asgard was brought to Earth, Thor technically invaded an area of Europe with his Asgardian warriors. Thor, the king of Asgard at the time, came dangerously close to starting an international war. Captain America intervened to talk some sense into Thor, but not before they had a fierce battle. Steve had little chance against Thor, but his shield protected him from injury. Thankfully, Steve was able to get Thor to see reason before things went too far.

4 Hulk Tried To Smash Everyone

Hulk fighting other heroes could take up an entire list on its own with the number of times he has gone on an uncontrollable rampage. However, when Hulk came back to Earth and started the World War Hulk event, it was undeniably his worst. Hulk set out to punish those who had wronged him while leveling anything in his path. The targets of Hulk's rage included powerful members of the Illuminati group like Professor X, Doctor Strange, and Iron Man.

3 Fighting Bucky Was Emotional For Steve In The Comics Too

Captain America fighting the Winter Soldier is a little different because the Winter Soldier was a villain at the time. However, it was still Steve's friend and ally Bucky deep down. Their fight ended when Steve used the cosmic cube to restore Bucky's memories.

2 Captain Marvel Started A War With Iron Man

In 2016, Marvel Comics attempted to capitalize on the success of the previous Civil War and the hype surrounding Captain America: Civil War that was released the same year. The event kicked off with the Inhuman Ulysses, who had the ability to see the future. This time, Tony Stark was on the side of limiting overreach, standing in the way of Captain Marvel using Ulysses' powers to arrest heroes for crimes that have yet to be committed. The problem was, Civil War II just wasn't as good as the first.

1 Iron Man Vs. Captain America Was The Battle Of The Decade

The fight that fans are most familiar with is also the most important because it was the most impactful. Superheroes had fought each other before, but Civil War was different. It was a fight that involved more than just Iron Man and Captain America because the way of life for superheroes was at stake. Even without the greater ramifications, watching Tony and Steve go at it in a way no other allies had before was both exciting and heartbreaking. Civil War would be the basis for the film of the same name and change the status quo of the comics forever.
