MCU: 10 Movie Heroes Better Than Captain America | CBR

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has brought Marvel's greatest heroes to the masses. Captain America may not have been the first MCU hero but he became one of the best, with fans loving him and actor Chris Evans's portrayal. He was often quite different from the comic version and while a lot of fans had issues with his ending in Avengers: Endgame, he's still a beloved hero.

However, just because he was one of the most beloved heroes in the MCU, that doesn't mean he was the best. There are other MCU heroes who are better than him for a variety of reasons.

10 Captain Marvel Left Earth To Defend Aliens

Captain Marvel is one of the most powerful heroes in the MCU and her return to Earth helped turn the tide against Thanos. However, before that, she was brainwashed by the Kree and used as a weapon. While she would eventually break free of their control, her sorrow over her actions motivated her to leave the Earth and make up for what she had done.

Captain Marvel wanted to use her titanic powers to help people from around the universe. At that point in time, Earth was pretty safe and she left a way to get in touch with her in case they needed her. Giving up her just rediscovered life on Earth to help beings she never met is pretty selfless and makes her a great hero.

9 The Winter Soldier Worked To Make Up For Years Of Wrongdoing

Cap and Bucky were some of the MCU's greatest friends. When it was revealed that Bucky was the Winter Soldier, Cap did everything he could to save his friend, including basically breaking up the Avengers to side with Bucky. From there, Winter Soldier would work hard to make up for all of the years of Hydra-commanded bloodshed he committed.

Winter Soldier had a lot to make up for and he did his best, fighting the good fight even after Steve retired, helping Falcon against the Flag-Smashers and John Walker. Winter Soldier will never stop fighting to make up for his past.

8 Thor Learned Humility & How To Be A True Hero

Cap was basically a hero right from the beginning. He was always a great person. Thor, on the other hand, had to learn to be better. For years, he was a bratty and selfish god, who cared more about the fight than helping others. His entire arc in the MCU was about learning to care about others and become an actual hero.

He succeeded admirably at this, saving Asgard and Earth, joining the Avengers, and overcoming every obstacle, including himself. While he's very different than the Thor in the comics, he's still a great hero and the fact that he became better makes him a better hero than Cap.

7 War Machine Overcame Horrendous Injury & Stepped Up After The Snap

War Machine was pretty much just Iron Man's sidekick for a while, a great hero but not taken very seriously by the rest of the Avengers. He was accidentally injured by the Vision during the battle between Cap and Iron Man's forces in Captain America: Civil War but came back, Tony Stark's tech helping him walk again.

After the Snap, when Cap, Thor, and Iron Man had basically quit the Avengers, War Machine stepped up, becoming one of the group's most important members and helping to mitigate the chaos on Earth. War Machine filled some big shoes after being badly injured, proving how great he was.

6 The Hulk Was Able To Overcome His Anger & Become Better Than He Was

One of the Hulk's most iconic MCU lines was to Cap, when he told Cap his secret: that he was always angry. Hulk's anger controlled him throughout the movies until he got beaten by Thanos. Hulk went away and Banner was left without powers. After the Snap, Banner not only got the Hulk back but was finally able to take control, becoming a better version of the Hulk.

The Hulk was able to overcome his anger and become better, making a concerted effort to change and become a greater hero. He was able to complete his arc and his anger stopped controlling him, allowing him to make a change that led to the Avengers' eventual triumph over Thanos.

5 Hawkeye's Unrivaled Bravery Made Him Great

Hawkeye is easily one of the greatest MCU Avengers of them all. He's basically just a highly trained soldier and spy who uses one of humanity's oldest weapons. While he has explosive arrows and such, he's still just a dude with a bow and arrow fighting aliens, androids, and gods. That takes some chutzpah and he's easily one of the bravest Avengers.

Hawkeye doesn't have any superhuman enhancements and yet he puts himself on the front lines of the fight, using his skills and weapons to make a difference in fights that should kill him.

4 Black Widow Took All Of The Responsibility Of The Avengers on Her Own Shoulders After The Snap

Black Widow's life was full of ups and downs and she proved that she was a great hero. However, her time to shine came after the Snap. As most of the team's leaders and most powerful members left after killing Thanos, Black Widow stayed around, taking on the responsibilities of the Avengers. She led the team, sending them on missions and trying to help the world after the catastrophe.

Black Widow then did something amazingly selfless: she sacrificed herself to get the Avengers the Soul Stone, preventing Hawkeye, a man with a family, from doing so. While fans weren't exactly happy about her fate, it proved that she was a great hero.

3 Falcon Stepped Up & Became The New Captain America

Falcon joined up with Cap and the Avengers in the battle against Hydra and stayed around, proving to be a stalwart partner for the Sentinel of Liberty. He proved himself in battle many times but didn't want to take up the mantle of Captain America like Steve wanted him to. However, after battling against the Flag-Smashers and John Walker, Falcon stepped up and became Captain America.

Taking what he already knew and learning new skills, Falcon stepped into some big shoes and immediately made a splash, doing it without super-soldier serum. He proved that he was greater than anyone he ever knew.

2 Spider-Man Quickly Became One Of The MCU's Greatest Heroes

Spider-Man was just a kid when he got his powers and much like Steve Rogers before him, immediately started doing good. He didn't have government backing or a fancy costume—he just wanted to protect those weaker than him. Eventually, he would come to Iron Man's notice and get a chance to take his place among the Avengers.

Spider-Man quickly proved that he was just as great as any of his older compatriots, becoming one of New York City's greatest heroes, even proving that he didn't need the fancy gadgets to be a hero. He's still young and has room to get better and better.

1 Iron Man Is The Greatest Hero In The MCU

Iron Man introduced the world to the MCU and was for long its most popular character. There are lots of reasons for this, but a big factor in it was his heroism. He stepped up every time he needed to, overcoming every obstacle. Using his brains and brawn, Iron Man saved the day every chance he could, making just about every sacrifice he had to.

One of the biggest obstacles he had to overcome was his own PTSD. While it hit him several times, including after the Snap, he always came back to the Avengers, even sacrificing his life to end the threat of Thanos.
