My Hero Academia: The 10 Worst Decisions Deku's Made (So Far)

Izuku Midoriya, better known as Deku, is an aspiring hero from My Hero Academia. He was given the quirk One for All because All Might saw that he had all the qualities of a hero. Deku is intelligent and will not hesitate to save anyone in danger. However, he is still a student with a limited amount of experience.

Although he has good intentions, he is not perfect and has made less than ideal decisions in his attempts to save others. His flaws are what make him an interesting character, and despite knowing how his journey will end, many fans want to see how he becomes the number one hero.

The last entry of this list includes spoilers for chapters 317-321 of the My Hero Academia manga.

10 Being Katsuki Bakugo's Friend Led To A Toxic Friendship

Being Katsuki's friend has done more harm to Deku than good. Even as a child, Katsuki would constantly tell Deku that he was so much better than him. This behavior grew more aggressive when Deku tried to help him up, and it turned into physical and verbal bullying. Despite this, Deku risked his life to save him from the sludge villain. Deku was terrorized until he got One For All, but Deku always considered Katsuki a friend and even praised his abilities.

9 He Damaged Himself In His Battle Against Shoto Todoroki

Deku wanted to save Shoto from his dark past and his inability to use his flame quirk, but he didn't have to destroy his body to do so. Heroes don't need to harm themselves to get through to someone.

Breaking his fingers multiple times permanently damaged his hand. Pro Heroes were also unimpressed with his self-destructive behavior, and it was a miracle that he found someone willing to take him in for his first internship.

8 He Told Katsuki About His Quirk Despite It Being A Secret

After his first mock battle against Katsuki, Deku felt so guilty that he told Katsuki about his quirk. He did this despite All Might's warnings to keep his quirk a secret. Additionally, Deku told Katsuki about this out in the open rather than somewhere a little more private. While Katsuki would keep this secret and eventually help him master his quirk, Deku still shouldn't have trusted him this much, given their past.

7 He Got Into A Fight At School

After getting kidnapped and rescued, Katsuki approached Deku and asked him to fight him. He was frustrated since he felt responsible for costing All Might his powers. He also hated that Deku, someone he used to consider worthless, was All Might's successor.

He decided to challenge Deku to a fight, and Deku caved in, knowing that Katsuki wouldn't feel better otherwise. Considering that students spar all the time during classes, Deku should have waited for a better opportunity to fight him rather than breaking yet another school rule.

6 He Didn't Do More To Help Tenya Iida

After Tenya's brother was attacked by Stain, Tenya made it his goal to get revenge. Deku quickly realized this when he noticed Tenya ran away from his mentor. Rather than telling the heroes near him about his realization, Deku ran to find Tenya by himself. If he had told them, they would have found a way to contact other heroes who would have been much more qualified to fight a villain as powerful as Stain.

5 He Destroyed His Body Against Muscular

When Deku confronted Muscular, it wasn't until he was worn out that he considered running from the villain. In this battle, he was completely reckless and got so injured that he could no longer rely on his arms in a battle. Not only did he have to be carried by another student, but he was severely limited in what he could do in the battle afterward, helplessly watching the villains complete their mission.

4 His Decision To Save Tomura Was Too Idealistic

Despite all of the things that Tomura Shigaraki has done, Deku decided to save him. He believed that Tomura was deeply unhappy, and One For All was a quirk meant to save lives rather than take them. This kind of thinking is too optimistic, especially after Tomura killed a countless number of people and left their society in shambles. It's also unlikely that Tomura would change, considering how much he enjoys his villainous acts.

3 Using Eri In The Fight Against Overhaul Put Her In Danger

When Deku was facing off against Overhaul, he had Eri on his back while her quirk was active. This was reckless, as it put Eri in the center of the battle and in a position where she could have been hurt. Relying on her quirk was also risky, considering the fact that she made her father disappear in an instant. As expected, she lost control of her quirk, and if Eraser Head didn't happen to be nearby, Deku wouldn't have gotten off as easily as he did.

2 He Gave Away One For All Despite The Physical Consequences

In order to defeat Nine In My Hero Academia: Heroes: Rising, Deku took a huge risk by giving One For All To Katsuki Bakugo. He ran the risk of blowing Katsuki's body apart, since anyone whose body is not prepared to take the quirk would get injured. He also risked destroying Katsuki's body the same way he destroyed his own, as he had broken his own bones on countless occasions.

1 He Abandoned His Friends & All Might

Realizing that Tomura would be able to find him at any given moment, Deku decided against returning to U.A. High School. He didn't want to see any more people get hurt because of him. He even told All Might that he didn't need his help, despite his mentor's efforts to get him to eat and rest. Deku is the type of person to push himself past his limits and can't handle the burden of defeating Tomura and All For One by himself.
