The Akatsuki's methods toward ending war and achieving peace are seemingly counterproductive, but the rhetoric surrounding committing acts of violence for the greater good is commonly found in anime. Some of the most famous anime villains and anti-heroes have subscribed to similar beliefs.
Even some heroes fall into the same line of thinking at times. Sometimes power and strongly held convictions lead to violations of ethics and personal morality, but many justify it as being for the greater good.
10 Light Yagami Was Already In Akatsuki Territory In Death Note
Light Yagami's god complex would certainly see him through into the Akatsuki, as there are plenty of Akatsuki members who suffer from similar pathologies. Many of them share a similar worldview of wanting to purge the earth of suffering. The only issue would be mingling Light's strong personality with those of the other eccentric Akatsuki members.
Light's paranoia and arrogance would likely get him into trouble with some of the Akatsuki members, and if he can't find their true names and faces, he is out of luck.
9 In Jujutsu Kaisen, Gojo Satoru's Power, Rebellious Streak, & Aloofness Could Land Him In The Akatsuki
Gojo Satoru's powers solidify him as the strongest and most formidable Jujutsu sorcerer, and with that power comes a lot of arrogance. He has a hunger for power that could see him drift to the dark side under the right circumstances. Furthermore, he wants to restructure the entire power dynamic of the Jujutsu sorcerer society, which leads him to be rude and cruel to the higherups of the various institutions.
The question is, to what ends will Gojo go to see his vision through? If he did join the Akatsuki, it would likely be because he was confident he could stop them once his goals were met.
8 Lelouch Of Code Geass Would Join If It Meant Destroying His Family
Lelouch vi Britannia is an aristocrat who fell from his family's grace, so like many of the characters in this list, he has a bit of an arrogance problem. However, he does try to fight for good. He is dedicated to justice and liberation for Japan, but this devolves into zealotry.
In the end, he shares the Akatsuki's desire of wanting to mold the world in an image he thinks is fair and pleasing, regardless of what anyone else thinks, even if those others are collateral.
7 Hellsing's Alucard Is Not Above Killing Anyone
A vampire with the highest level of power, an unquenchable bloodlust, and an unfamiliarity with ethics seems like a perfect addition to the Akatsuki, especially after Orochimaru left. He has a flair for the dramatic and hates to kill anyone too quickly. So, he would make a great replacement for someone like Sasori.
However, like many on this list, Alucard's weakness is his ego. Even so, with that being one's weakness, they are still in good company with the Akatsuki.
6 The Goblin Slayer May Join If It Leads To Killing More Goblins
The Goblin Slayer, himself, is not a heartless character, that is unless you are a goblin. As fans have seen throughout the series, he is willing to go to extreme lengths to exterminate goblins. It would be on-brand for the Goblin Slayer to join a group capable of altering reality so greatly that it could wipe goblins from existence.
While he may want to save civilians and innocents from being collateral, fans have to wonder whether that would be enough to outweigh his desire to stop goblins.
5 Spike Spiegel From Cowboy Bebop Already Has Questionable Morals
Spike Spiegel would do anything for money, including lying, stealing, and killing, but he is not necessarily super villain material. While Spike may have no immediate reason to want to join an organization like the Akatsuki, his gray morality would not count him out of the running.
Plus, if he were to catch wind of someone like Orochimaru or Pain's powers, he may be tempted by the promise of bringing back his lost love, Julia. Then again, Spike may have had his fill of weird, shadowy organizations.
4 Bakugo Of My Hero Academia May Be Talked Into Joining the Villains
There is a moment when Bakugo is captured by the League of Villains that fans worry Bakugo will be swayed to the side of the villains. After all, his character is defined by his explosive attitude and arrogance.
On top of that, he is set up as a foil to Deku in the same way Endeavor—who is not a villain but is a terrible person—is to All Might. With a bit more prodding and the right circumstances, Bakugo might still join the Akatsuki, especially to get stronger in respect to Deku.
3 Shinobu From Demon Slayer Has A Moral Compass So Rigid It Could Lead To Villainy
Many of the Hashira are suspicious for their strict moral compass and their inability to take special circumstances or empathy into consideration. Giyu is the only exception to this, and it leads to Tanjiro and Nezuko becoming an anomalous force of good to be reckoned with. So, wiggle room is sometimes a good thing.
However, as we see with the incident on Mount Natagumo, Shinobu is ruthless and cold. Shinobu waxes poetic about being the demon's friend, but then she kills the demon, despite its tragic backstory and extenuating circumstances. Shinobu is the kind of zealot the Akatsuki love.
2 Berserk's Guts Would Do Anything To Get Revenge On Griffith
Guts goes through so much throughout the Berserk series, and two huge pluses in one's prospects of joining the Akatsuki are having a tragic backstory and wanting revenge by any means necessary. Those are two boxes Guts ticks off.
He would fit in with Kisame Hoshigaki, as both are renowned swordsmen. He has already been a mercenary, so killing is not a problem. As long as Guts gets stronger to get revenge on his enemies, he would not put it out of the realm of possibility.
1 Tokyo Ghoul's Ken Kaneki Has Already Done Terrible Things, So Joining The Akatsuki Wouldn't Be That Shocking
Ken Kaneki's motivations are mostly centered around survival in a world that is antagonistic to him. He is a complex character with a tragic backstory and a need for safety. He, like many, wants to protect his loved ones against those that threaten them.
However, the definition of a threat is broad, and this turns Kaneki into an anti-hero. Kaneki goes through many different transformations of identity, growth periods, and changes, but there are certain moments throughout his life where Kaneki might have joined the Akatsuki.
