Roswell, New Mexico Clip: Alex Comes to a Startling Realization

To save Kyle Valenti, everyone in Roswell, New Mexico will have to pool their resources, and that's exactly what Michael Guerin asks Alex Manes to do in this CBR-exclusive clip from "Bittersweet Symphony." In the process, Alex makes a startling realization about Deep Sky -- and his boss, Eduardo Ramos, in particular.

The clip picks up with Guerin greeting Alex as he fiddles with the remnants of the Valenti radio on the hood of his truck. "I thought 'white as a sheet' was just an expression," Geurin said to Alex without looking up.

"You said this had to do with Kyle and Maria," Alex shot back with a sideways glance. "What are we doing here?" He gazed ahead at an electrical tower until Guerin turned to him, explaining, "Kyle sent out a radio transmission before he disappeared last night. I need your help to figure out if someone received it."

After Alex pointed out that radio waves are omni-directional, Guerin pointed out that Kyle's radio had an extra little kick to it: alien technology. "I feel like this tower, it's a dead end," Alex insisted, and asked if Guerin had any other leads.

"What's wrong with this tower? If Kyle's radio was an SOS, what if it transmitted his location?" Guerin suggested. "What if someone came out here and took Kyle?" In turn, Alex scoffed and suggested Kyle was abducted by aliens to drive home that Guerin had no proof -- but Geruin wasn't done: "Max found a bloody shovel nearby!"

That gave Alex pause. He flashed back to an earlier exchange with Ramos, when he noticed a bandaged wound on Ramos' arm. At the time, he had asked Ramos whether he'd been bitten by a bat, only for Ramos to brush him off and claim it was from a rabies shot. However, it wasn't until this moment that Alex realized there may be a connection between the bloody shovel and Ramos' injury, since they also had a radio just like Kyle's back at Deep Sky.

Back in present day, Alex asked after the shovel's location, and Guerin told him that Liz took it for testing. At that, Alex said he had to go, but Guerin wasn't ready to let him go yet. Using his telekinesis, Guerin slammed the door to Alex's car closed, bringing them to the precipice of another argument.

"I'm a cyber intelligence specialist. I'm not a magician," Alex spat, only for Guerin to counter, "Well, I just want you to be a guy who gives a damn. When I thought it was me who was killed in Maria's vision, you said you would burn the world down to find out who hurt me. Don't Kyle and Maria at least deserve a few flames?"

"I didn't said I wasn't going to do anything," Alex replied softly. "I just don't want you anywhere near whatever it is I decide to do." With that, he got back into his car and took off, leaving Guerin behind with tears in his eyes.
