Sonic Races His Metal Rival in Rise of the Wisps Part II | CBR

Sega debuted Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps Part II, the climactic final episode of its successful animated webseries.

Picking up where Rise of the Wisps Part 1 ended, Metal Sonic is hot on the heels of his organic rival, Sonic the Hedgehog. As the Blue Blur streaks his way around the whimsically named Sweet Mountain saving the captured wisps, Metal Sonic does his best to stop the hero. Unable to keep up with Sonic, the metallic monster begins to siphon the power of the wisps. In a final climactic race, Sonic must push himself past his limits, with the help of his friends, if he wants to defeat Metal Sonic and free the trapped wisps.

Setting the stage for the events of Sonic Colors: Ultimate, fans will recognize several familiar faces from the first episode of Rise of the Wisps. Beyond the returning characters, including Sonic's best friend Miles "Tails" Prower, various magical wisps are showcased. Unlike the first episode, each wisp color briefly teams up Sonic to grant him extra abilities. Some of these powers include the ability to drill into the earth, turn into a laser beam and phase through solid objects. All the highlighted skills are available in Sonic Colors: Ultimate as power-ups.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate is the remastered and updated version of Sonic Colors which was originally released on the Nintendo Wii in 2010. The game is considered one of the best in the long-running Sonic the Hedgehog franchise due to its tight-level design and creative mix of special abilities.

Fans can expect a variety of gameplay improvements and a complete graphical overhaul. Sonic will race through the game's dazzling levels in 4K at 60FPS, made to look even prettier with an improved lighting system and reworked textures. Beyond that Sonic Colors: Ultimate will also feature a new game mode, "Rival Rush," which pits the speedy hedgehog against Metal Sonic. It will also include customizable controls, unlockable cosmetics, a remixed soundtrack and new power-ups, including the Jade Wisp and Tails rescue tokens.

Besides Colors: Ultimate, fans of Sonic the Hedgehog have a great deal to look forward to. Netflix is currently producing Sonic Prime, a new animated series that will see Sonic thrown through the multiverse according to leaked concept art. Even more exciting than that is the recent announcement at Idris Elba is voicing Knuckles the Echidna in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the upcoming sequel to 2020's live-action adaption.
