Star Wars: Visions' Studio Trigger Celebrates 10th Anniversary

TRIGGER, the anime studio behind such anime as Little Witch Academia, Promare and two episodes of the upcoming Star Wars: Visions, celebrates its 10th anniversary with a video and message for fans.

Studio TRIGGER was founded on Aug. 22, 2011 by Hiroyuki Imaishi and Masahiko Otsuka, both former employees of Gainax who previously worked together on Gurren Lagann and Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. TRIGGER's first anime was the limited animation web series Inferno Cop in December 2012, followed by the first Little Witch Academia short film in March 2013. Kill la Kill, premiering in October 2013, was the studio's first TV anime. Over the past decade, the company has become a fan favorite due to its stylized animation and edgy otaku sensibility, being viewed as a true successor to the golden years of Gainax.

The TRIGGER 10th Anniversary official video is an action-packed montage showcasing all of the studio's major in-house productions. Inferno Cop, Little Witch Academia, Kill la Kill, When Supernatural Battles Become Commonplace, Ninja Slayer From Animation, KiznaiverSpace Patrol Luluco, SSSS.Gridman, Promare, BNA: Brand New Animal and SSSS.Dynazaemon all make appearances in the video. It does not include any scenes from Darling in the FRANXX, the popular yet controversial 2018 series for which TRIGGER provided animation but was primarily made by A-1 Pictures and CloverWorks, nor does it include any of TRIGGER's work for hire on various video games and Western cartoons. The anniversary video ends with the declaration, "See you next TRIGGER animation."

TRIGGER also shared a 10th-anniversary message for its fans on Twitter, written by Representing President Masahiko Otsuka. "Studio TRIGGER will becoming 10 years old on August 22 2021," Otsuka wrote. "This was not possible without the support of our loyal fans. We truly cannot thank you enough. The world went through a series of events that was unimaginable 10 years ago. Even now, the world is still in a very difficult situation. While we cannot better the situation physically, we hope that our animation will bring everyone enjoyment and joy, even if only in a small way. With your ongoing support, TRIGGER will continue to fire bullets of animation for the foreseeable future." The message is accompanied by an illustration of the company mascot Trigger-chan.

The studio also stated that events and exclusive merchandise are being planned for its 10th anniversary. The first of these to be announced is a book showcasing art from the "World of Imaishi" exhibit, held earlier this summer at the EJ Anime Museum in Tokorozawa, Saitama.
