For the last five years, Stardew Valley has endured thanks in part due to its amazingly written characters. Players can befriend almost every single NPC in the game and experience unique Heart Events when they reach a certain level of friendship. These Heart Events are often crucial in maxing out a player's friendship with a villager. Heart Events are also the main way that players get to know the game's characters, such as Abigail.
Abigail is, without a doubt, a fan-favorite character and a frequent pick for marriage in Stardew Valley. Many of her Heart Events deal with her first two loves, gaming and exploration. Players will also discover that she has a unique appetite for quartz and amethyst crystals, which are both great gifts to boost the player's hearts with her. Here's a quick guide on what players need to do to trigger each of Abigail's Heart Events and how to get the most out of each one.
This event happens when players reach two hearts and enter Pierre's General Store while Abigail is inside. Players will enter Abigail's room to catch her having trouble with an in-universe video game called Journey of the Prairie King. This Heart Event's main purpose is to give players access to Abigail's room, making it far easier to talk to her and give her gifts.
There's no way to gain or lose hearts from this event, even if players lose Journey of the Prairie King. The only difference between helping Abigail beat the level or getting a game over is the dialogue that happens at the end of the event. Journey of the Prairie King is actually playable at an arcade machine in the Stardrop Saloon, so players can practice before the Heart Event if they want though it really isn't a requirement, even for completionists.
Players can trigger Abigail's four-heart Heart Event by visiting the mountain area, which is the same place that the Carpentry Shop is located. The event will only trigger if players arrive between 12:00 PM and 7:00 PM during a rainy day, and it will not trigger during the winter season. As long as these conditions are met, a cutscene should trigger where players catch Abigail playing her flute in the rain.
There's a dialogue prompt that will impact the player's hearts with Abigail, so picking the right choice is important if players want to maximize their relationship. Abigail will ask what the player is doing out in the rain, so respond with, "enjoying the weather." This will net the player 50 points of friendship with Abigail, which is a little more than what giving Abigial quartz is worth.
To trigger this event, players will want to simply enter the main town area between 9:00 PM and 12:00 PM when it isn't raining. A cutscene should trigger where the player finds Abigail in the graveyard practicing with her sword and learn that she has always wanted to go on an adventure.
Abigail will ask if the player has ever used a sword before and four different dialogue options will pop up. Keeping in mind Abigail's love of adventure, players should select either of the dialogue prompts that say yes and affirm Abigail's interest. Saying no won't affect the player's relationship with Abigail, but saying "yes, but it's dangerous. You should stay safe." will drop the player's friendship with her by a staggering 100 points.
Once players reach eight hearts, they should eventually get a letter will invite the player to join Abigail in her room. The event requires players to enter Pierre's General Store on any evening that Abigail's there, between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM. Once a cutscene shows the player walking into Abigail's room, she'll invite the player to use her spirit board with her.
This event is just a cutscene and doesn't impact the player's relationship with Abigail, though it does have implications for those looking to romance her. During the cutscene, the spirit board will reveal that Abigail has a crush on the player. This event's more so just a fun cutscene that reveals Abigail's personality, though it is the last Heart Event that players can do before entering a relationship with her.
Before players get Abigail's second-to-last Heart Event, they'll want to give her a Bouquet, which players give to characters they wish to marry. Players looking to marry Abigail will want to purchase a Bouquet from Pierre's and gift it to her after finishing her eight heart event.
This event is also skippable if players marry Abigail before triggering it, though this can increase their relationship with her by 80 points if it's completed. The event will trigger when players enter the mines between 5:00 PM and 12:00 PM, where they'll witness Abigail being startled by bats flying around. Asking if Abigail is okay, and then admitting that the player sometimes gets scared are the best options and will net players the biggest increase to their relationship with Abigail.
Abigail's final Heart Event has no effect on her relationship with the player but is probably one of the more important events when it comes to Abigail's character development. To trigger this, players will want to enter the Backwoods at any time between 6:10 AM and 5:00 PM. This event can be done regardless of the season or the day of the week.
The cutscene will start with the player forging in the Backwoods but things will quickly worsen when a monster surprises the player and attacks them. Abigail will appear and will kill the monster with her sword, saving the player character's life. Again, this event doesn't affect the player's relationship with her, but it does show how Abigail has changed over the course of the game, making her final Heart Event a special one on the first playthrough of Stardew Valley.
