Amanda Waller's right-hand man becomes her latest enemy in solicitations for Suicide Squad #9 and #10.
The last readers saw Rick Flag in the comics, he had "disagreed" with Waller's plans for the future. To be more specific, Waller electrocuted and imprisoned Flag after he balked at her plans for a Task Force Z, rival Justice League, multiversal kidnappings and more, refusing to go along with what she wanted. Now, Flag is free and it seems he plans to take his former boss down based on DC's November 2021 solicitations.

- The Suicide Squad barely manage to steal an alien technology from OA only to find themselves cut off from their transport back to Earth and on the run from Lanterns and Thanagarians. And no backup is coming from Earth because Amanda Waller is under fire from her onetime ally, current-time enemy: Rick Flag!
Flag disappeared from Belle Reve prison in Suicide Squad #4, finding his way out after Red X escaped containment and plunged the prison into madness. Since Red X turned the Squad's whole world upside down, Waller has been busy, sending Bloodsport to retrieve multiversal recruits for the Squad and Peacemaker to obtain Swamp Thing. This has all been a slow build to Waller seizing control of a world for her to "save": Earth 3, home to the Crime Syndicate.
It seems Flag has had his own plans in motion as well. The solicitation for Suicide Squad #9 states that Flag has been "assembling his OWN Squad" in an attempt to go after Waller and stop her grand scheme. Waller is also about to lose some of her best protection from Flag as she sends the Squad into space to infiltrate and rob the Green Lanterns' homeworld, Oa.
It looks like Flag will be taking advantage of this opportunity and will go head-to-head with Waller in Suicide Squad#10. The solicitations say that Waller will be "under fire from her onetime ally" during the issue. Readers of the series will note that Waller has an entire prison of villains to recruit to the Squad though, and she will likely not be defenseless when Flag attacks.
In this current run written by Robbie Thompson, Waller has had multiple teams of the Suicide Squad working on different missions at once, and the members have dwindled and quickly been replaced throughout the issues that have been published so far. The team has already lost a number of members to the gas attack on Arkham Asylum, multiple teleporter characters and others in such little time. These characters were all easily replaced by the issue after they died, implying that Waller has a plethora of Squad members on tap for when she sends her main team into space, meaning Flag will not have an easy time taking her on.
Suicide Squad #9 goes on sale Nov. 2 from DC Comics, with Suicide Squad #10 following on Dec. 7, 2021. The issues will be written by Robbie Thomspon, with art by Dexter Soy, Eduardo Pansica, Julio Ferreira and Marcelo Maiolo. Main cover art will be provided by Pansica, with variants by Gerald Parel.
