Supergirl: Kara and Lena's Relationship Is 'Stronger Than Ever,' Says Melissa Benoist

According to Supergirl star Melissa Benoist, Kara Danvers and Lena Luthor have gotten over their past issues and are closer than ever.

"I think that Kara and Lena's relationship is stronger than ever in this last season," Benoist stated in an interview with EW. "Everything they went through in season 5, I wouldn't say it's water under the bridge, but I do think it's fortified their friendship and their sisterhood, and their alliance."

Benoist added that she thinks it is "such a wonderful exemplary relationship on the show of how women can lift each other up this season," and how women can have disagreements but "then find a common ground that really solves problems in genius ways," especially when one has a character with the surname of Luthor, a name Benoist says "carries that weight," and one bears the title of the Girl of Steel.

"Those two women together — the strength and brawn and hope of Supergirl, and the brilliance and ingenuity of Lena Luthor — they do some really exciting things together this year," she concluded.

Supergirl's final season recently returned from its lengthy hiatus, during which the show was replaced by fellow Superman-centric Arrowverse series Superman & Lois, which aired its season finale on Aug. 17. Supergirl had previously replaced it for a time while the series was placed on its own suspension, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Supergirl airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on The CW.
