Superman & Lois Recap & Spoilers: S1, E14, 'The Eradicator' | CBR

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Superman & Lois Season 1, Episode 14, "The Eradicator," which aired Tuesday on The CW.

After a three-week hiatus, Superman & Lois has finally returned. When the last episode of the series came to a close, Morgan Edge (Adam Rayner), who the Eradicator transformed, was hovering next to the sun, using the star's energy to power himself up like never before. Now, as Season 1's penultimate episode begins, Edge is still next to the sun, his transformation into a living Eradicator ongoing. The action then jumps ahead three weeks, and the Smallville's citizens are trying to get back to their normal lives. However, they can't because the Department of Defense is still firmly established in the middle of town, waiting for Edge to return and attack again.

There's a real sense of unease in the town, and it's made all the worse thanks to an article recently published by the Smallville Gazette that attacks the DoD, its secrecy and its ongoing occupation of the town square. General Sam Lane (Dylan Walsh) is none too pleased about the article, and he's set to host a town hall meeting to address the people about all of this. The public wants answers about Edge and whatever he did, but the situation is extremely complicated because to tell the whole story would likely implicate Sam's family, the Kents.

The town hall meeting goes about as well as expected: the people angrily demand answers, and Sam can't offer any details. Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) tries her best to placate them, but they aren't having it. Luckily for Sam, the meeting is cut short when he gets word that Morgan Edge has returned to Earth. The villain has attacked the DoD and has broken his right-hand woman, Leslie Larr, out of confinement.

The two Kryptonians quickly disappear, but it isn't long before they resurface. However, they are not in Smallville as expected. Instead, they reappear in Metropolis, where they simply stand in place next to a gathering crowd, waiting for Superman (Tyler Hoechlin). The Man of Steel and his new partner John Henry Irons (Wolé Park), armored up in his war suit, arrive on the scene. Superman quickly notes that something is wrong with Morgan Edge. But as the two superheroes get ready to move, people from the crowd take to the skies, revealing that Edge has once again created new Kryptonians in human hosts.

Edge's soldiers rapidly move to destroy Metropolis, using their heat vision to cut down entire buildings -- just like they did on John Henry Irons' parallel Earth. Superman and Irons split up to protect the people, and a massive battle follows. The Man of Steel takes on as many Kryptonians as he can, knocking them down one after the other. Irons does the same on his side, putting his war suit and hammer to work against Leslie Larr and other Kryptonians.

Amid the chaos, Lois runs to the top of a building to find a camerawoman covering the news about what's happening in the city. Lois knows exactly what is going on, and the camerawoman insists that she grab a mic and tell the public. On the rooftop, Lois goes on camera, explaining what Morgan Edge is doing. But while she does so, Leslie Larr ominously flies up behind Lois, ready to kill the reporter. The scene recreates exactly the moment John Henry Irons' wife, an alternate version of Lois Lane, died in his world. However, this time, Irons gets the chance to save this Lois by throwing his hammer and knocking out Leslie Larr just in time.

Irons and Superman take care of the rest of the Kryptonians, leaving only Morgan Edge. But when they try to attack him, they are repelled by a powerful energy blast. After this, Edge disappears. Superman, Lois, Sam and John figure out that Edge has become the Eradicator and can now create Kryptonians at will.

Elsewhere in the episode, Lana (Emmanuelle Chriqui) and Kyle have put their house up for sale after feeling like Smallville has turned its back on them. Their daughter Sarah (Inde Navarrette) isn't convinced that they will actually leave, which is good for her and her burgeoning romance with Jordan (Alex Garfin). However, the decision is made when Kyle gets a job offer in another town two hours away. The parents break the news to their two girls, and Sarah is, understandably, extremely upset that she has to move away. She storms out and finds Jordan and Jonathan (Jordan Elsass) at a party with all of their friends. After everyone watches the attack on Metropolis on television, the party gets briefly interrupted by Sam Lane, who barges in looking for his grandsons. With Morgan Edge still out there, he insists on taking them home. Jordan asks if they can also take Sarah home, and Sam reluctantly agrees.

However, n the way home, Morgan Edge appears in the middle of the road. The collision sends Sam's car flying, and he, Jordan, Jonathan and Sarah are all injured as a result. Jonathan tries to use a Kryptonite gun on Edge, but it has no effect. The villain tears into the car, takes Jordan and flies away with him. Horrified, Jonathan urges Sarah to run home. After she does, he calls his father to the scene, informing him of what just happened. Superman blasts off into the atmosphere, desperately searching for his son. But, unfortunately, he can't locate him.

Defeated, a heartbroken Superman returns to Lois, informing her that Edge has taken their son and disappeared. But this time, Edge isn't in space; he's still on Earth. He takes Jordan to a powerplant and unleashes his power on him. Using his abilities as the Eradicator, Edge implants Jordan with a Kryptonian identity -- and not just anyone. When the process is complete, Jordan is no more. Edge's father, Zeta-Rho, has taken over his body. Now, the villain has been restored in the body of Superman's son, which means the Man of Steel will most assuredly not be willing to fight him, lest he hurts his son in the process. With only one episode left, Superman & Lois has just faced Superman with a frightening challenge.
