WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Ted Lasso Season 2, Episode 3, "Do the Right-est Thing," now available on Apple TV+.
Season 2 of Apple TV's Ted Lasso has found Coach Ted (Jason Sudeikis) needing a new approach off the pitch to avoid discontent and civil war. He's re-signed Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster) for AFC Richmond, but the backroom isn't happy as Jamie was a jerk to them in the past. Ted, though, decides to use an old trick from back in his Kansas coaching days, revealing his inner Hulk who turns out to be a nasty, evil version of himself.
The team isn't taking well to Jamie, leaving him out of their bonding sessions and reminding him of his egotistical ways. He's not as genuine either, wanting to buy PS5's for everyone in a superficial apology. Thus, Ted reveals it's time to break out the big guns and attack them emotionally with a bit of reverse psychology.
The coach emerges from the dugout with black shades on and a very angry demeanor. He's insulting players, putting them through rigorous drills and basically being a monster. It's a total flip, stunning his team who are accustomed to him being a nice guy. Nate's petrified as assistant Beard admits that this is Led Tasso, the wicked counterpart and beast Ted holds inside, never wanting to come out.
Led cuts a terrifying figure, that of a tyrant who emasculates the men and makes it impossible to train. Every mistake is berated as he becomes the opposite of what a good coach is, kicking balls away and even giving them the task of "thousands of laps." However, it changes when Jamie sticks up for the lads, reminding Led to go easy on them. He's experienced so he knows this sort of training and tactics aren't good for the team.
Led then reams Jamie and sends them all to the locker room. However, Dani and the boys thank Jamie for his leadership as they head off. Beard then removes the shades and Led snaps out of it, bringing Ted back to reality. Apparently, in this mode, he can't remember anything, truly evoking shades of Bruce Banner and the Hulk. Even the sports therapist, Sharon, is impressed as she observes, understanding Ted has focused the hate on him so everyone would go easy on Jamie.
It also explains the anger he had earlier this season when Higgins hired Sharon, with confirmation that this was a bit of Led bubbling up. Healthy strategy or not, this paves the foundation for a boosted Jamie and the team to stand with Sam, who's protesting their corrupt investors, Dubai Air, thus unifying the squad at last. The sponsor may not like it, having already asked about axing Sam, but it might lead to them running into Led, who wouldn't want anyone dictating the pace besides him.
Season 2 of Ted Lasso is well under way on Apple TV+. The first three episodes are streaming now, with subsequent episodes available every Friday.
