The Bad Batch: Omega and Crosshair Remain Enemies After Saving Each Other

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 1, Episode 16, “Kamino Lost,” streaming now on Disney+.

After successfully rescuing Hunter in “Return to Kamino,” Clone Force 99 found themselves with the sudden need to evacuate after Admiral Rampart gave the order to commence an aerial bombardment of the cloning families. So, with Crosshair reluctantly in tow, they escaped in the season finale of The Bad Batch. Along the way, Omega and Crosshair saved each other’s lives, but that didn’t change the fact that they are still enemies.

The first incident happened at the episode's beginning as the clones were running through the halls of their former home. While attempting to make it to their ship, the constant barrage of fire from Rampart’s Star Destroyer caused countless explosions, and much of the Kaminoan city structure collapsed around them. As that happened, Omega, Crosshair and the droid AZI were separated from the rest of the group and trapped in a compartment filling with water at an alarming rate.

To make matters worse, debris trapped Crosshair, so he couldn’t help Omega in her efforts to escape. Hunter and the crew did their best to get the doors open. However, it was Omega that saved Crosshair. She went underwater and used her energy bow to dislodge the debris and free him. Without her, Crosshair would have likely drowned despite the other members’ efforts.

After being saved, Crosshair showed no signs of gratitude. He simply commenced an episode’s worth of blaming everyone else for his issues, and the tensions remained high as he confronted Hunter, Wrecker and Tech. For some reason, he still thought that his former squad was wrong to oppose the Empire. As such, he believes that he will have a place in that Empire when he returns to it.

At the episode's conclusion, things came full circle. Everyone was trapped inside of the Kaminoan facilities, but they were now on the seafloor. So, they decided to get inside of some airtight medical capsules and ride to the surface with AZI guiding them. It was a great plan until Omega’s capsule got caught in some sinking debris. AZI went to save her, but the little droid’s power supply ran out. So, Omega exited her capsule and dove to save the droid. Both of them probably would have been lost had it not been for Crosshair’s quick reactions. He fired a cable from his sniper rifle, hit AZI and retrieved both of them from the Kaminoan ocean.

After all of that, it looked like Crosshair just might come around, but he squashed those hopes as quickly as they began. As Clone Force 99 boarded their ship, they offered Crosshair a chance to join them. However, he brought his trademark callousness to bear and outright refused. After Omega thanked him for saving AZI, Crosshair told her, “Consider us even.” In other words, he saved Omega and the droid as a favor because they had saved him, not because he cared for them. So, after all of that, Crosshair will remain with the Empire moving forward.

Created by Dave Filoni, Star Wars: The Bad Batch has been greenlit for a second season which will premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
