The Season 7 finale of The Flash featured Barry teaming up with his wife, Iris, their future children Bart and Nora, Jay Garrick and the physical embodiment of the Speed Force to take on Godspeed. After they defeated the villain and locked him up in Iron Heights, Nora and Bart chose to stay in the current time while Barry and Iris renewed their vows.

However, not everything is perfect following Godspeed's defeat. In order to help beat the evil speedster, Barry restored his archenemy, the Reverse-Flash, to life. The Reverse-Flash escaped after the final battle, and will presumably loom large over Season 8. In addition, reports have indicated that several new villains will appear, including a major new foe from the "world of horror and the supernatural."

Series executive producer Eric Wallace has stated that Season 8 of The Flash will show Barry's transformation into a "confident, incredibly powerful, secure team leader." Barry and Iris' marriage will be tested throughout the season, as will Joe and Cecile's relationship. Other confirmed plot points that Season 8 will address include Iris' time sickness, villains from the show's past, Kristen Kramer's newly-discovered superpowers and more.

The Flash Season 8 will launch with a five-episode event titled "Armageddon" that will feature Javicia Leslie as Batwoman, Brandon Routh as The Atom, Cress Williams as Black Lightning, Chyler Leigh as Sentinel, Kat McNamara as Mia Queen and Osric Chau as Ryan Choi, as well as Tom Cavanagh and Neal McDonough as villains Eobard Thawne/Reverse Flash and Damien Darhk, respectively.

"Armageddon" will center on the arrival of a powerful alien, threat that will force Team Flash to enlist old friends in the desperate battle to defend Earth. The announcement was followed swiftly by new that actor Tony Curran, beloved for his portrayal of Vincent van Gogh on Doctor Who, will play the telepathic alien Despero, introduced in 1960, in DC's Justice League of America #1.

The Flash will be the only Arrowverse series to feature the crossover, but the consequences will ripple out to the other shows.
