The Suicide Squad: James Gunn Spotlights Artists Left Out of the Credits

The Suicide Squad writer/director James Gunn shined a spotlight on many of the film's creators who were unfortunately left uncredited.

"Sadly some great folks who worked incredibly hard on [The Suicide Squad] were accidentally left off the credits," Gunn said on Twitter. He goes on to list each of the concept artists by name. The list includes Sebastian Meyer, Shane Baxley, Dave Levy, Simon Murton, Ed Natividad, David Swayze, Henrik Tamm, Josh Viers and Marek Okoń. Gunn also credits model maker Brett Philips, who responded to Gunn's tweet saying, "Y'all are forgiven! Just happy to have had the opportunity!"

While some were unfortunately left out of the credits, The Suicide Squad does offer a special thanks to David Ayer, the director of the original 2016 Suicide Squad. In a separate section, people like Thinker co-creator Patrick Zircher and Ratcatcher co-creator John Wagner were also listed in the credits along with various other comic book creators who had an impact on the film.

The Suicide Squad was released on HBO Max earlier than expected, appearing in theaters and for free on the streaming service at 7 p.m. on Aug. 5, as opposed to its intended simultaneous release in theaters and HBO Max on Aug. 6. The early release also happens to coincide with Gunn's birthday. Gunn's R-rated superhero film is currently falling short of its opening weekend box office projections, estimated to bring in a three-day gross of $25 million, as opposed to the projected $30 million for its first weekend of release.

However, The Suicide Squad brought in $12 million from 4,002 theaters on Friday alone and earned $4.1 million on Thursday night previews, the biggest number for an R-rated movie since the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic began.

It has also received generally favorable reviews from both critics and fans, currently holding a 93% Certified Fresh rating on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer. The Suicide Squad is currently available in theaters and on HBO Max.
