WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Transformers: War for Cybertron -- Kingdom, now streaming on Netflix.

In Transformers: War for Cybertron - Kingdom, the Autobots and Maximals realize they need to partner to save their homeworld with the Allspark. Unfortunately, the Decepticons and Predacons team up against them to take the relic for themselves, but in time, all factions realize a common goal is essential to their survival. And the key to uniting everyone comes in the form of the Decepticons' most sinister killer: Starscream.

In the Transformers franchise, Starscream often tries to betray Megatron and take control. It's a staple of past cartoons, animated movies and the comics. And make no mistake, the first two chapters in the Netflix trilogy follow a similar nefarious route, as Starscream wants to take Megatron out and rule so that he might restore Cybertron to its glory days. Initially, when the Decepticons meet the Predacons, Starscream is his usual-selfish self, wanting both versions of Megatron dead, and he works with Blackarachnia to achieve this.

However, as she steals Megatron's blood and the Golden Disk, everything changes. The spider-bot hacks it so that Starscream can fake Megatron's signature, but when he reads it, he's overloaded by painful memories of the future that Galvatron endured. He realizes Galvatron is manipulating his past self and the Predacon Megatron to get the Allspark, so he can use it to kill the being that ensalved him -- Unicron.

Starscream knows this path will led to everyone dying, and as he reconciles the deaths that formed Galvatron and the ones that would happen on this new quest, Starscream makes a total U-turn. He returns the disk to Bumblebee, who breaks it, not buying into Starscream's antics. Bee doesn't believe the backstabber and think it's another trick. But there's no duplicity -- Starscream is totally genuine, which is why when they get to Cybertron, he rallies the troops.

When the Megatrons team up with Nemesis Prime to wage war on Optimus' crew, Starscream begs them to lay arms down. He makes clear peace is the only way forward, so an alliance must be formed. This leads to Megatron turning on Galvatron's lackeys, and eventually, the coalition Starscream inspires wins. Cybertron's restarted using the Allspark and it seems like a new era is being ushered.

However, Megatron takes his faction away, but that doesn't stop a petrified Starscream from telling Blackarachnia he can still hear Unicron. She's adamant they'll fortify, with Starscream hoping for the best and shockingly following a heroic path, as he wants what's best for all. This time, if he does launch a coup, it'll be for the greater good and can truly end the rivalry with Optimus' group and provide the right army for the Unicron battle to come.
