Game developers Perelesoq and Nordcurrent released a new trailer for their upcoming World War II game Torn Away.
The gameplay trailer showcased Torn Away's emotional tone. Inspired by children's diaries from World War II, the game follows Asya, an orphan who escaped from a labor camp. Players must navigate the snowy wilderness of Poland and Germany to help the young girl find her way home. Torn Away combines mechanics from various genres including stealth games, side-scrollers and puzzle games to create a unique, immersive experience.
According to the trailer's description, players must "persevere through the harsh elements of nature, hide and evade soldiers, and look for shelter and food in order to survive. In a war-torn world where violence and terror reign, you have to stay strong. You have to survive without losing what makes us human."
The goal of Torn Away is to refocus the conversation surrounding war and nationalized violence. "Our goal as a studio is to captivate our audience with thoughtful storytelling, beautiful visuals and expressive music. We want to use this incredible interactive medium of games to explore important stories from history and give players a more pensive and empathetic experience," Perelesoq creative director Artem Koblov said in an official statement. "Torn Away is more than just a game, an entertainment product; it is a unique way to understand the tragedies of war from a child’s perspective. We are proud to announce that Torn Away is coming this Winter and we are looking forward to sharing it with you."
Torn Away will be available on Steam later this year.
