Jujutsu Kaisen: 5 Harsh Realities Of Being Sukuna's Vessel (& 5 Perks)

Ryomen Sukuna is the cursed spirit deemed the "King of Curses" for his immense power and cursed energy. He resides within Yuji Itadori, who ate one of his fingers and became Sukuna's vessel. Being Sukuna's vessel isn't as cool as it sounds, though, and Yuji has experienced many tragedies as a result.

While he can convince Sukuna to share power with him during moments of dire peril, the majority of the time being Sukuna's vessel is disturbing, painful, and full of grief. With that being said, there are a handful of perks for playing host to Ryomen Sukuna.

10 Con: Sukuna Can Kill His Vessel At Any Time

When Sukuna took over Yuji Itadori and ripped his heart out, both fans and the horrified Megumi Fushiguro were shocked. Of course, it's soon revealed that Sukuna can bring Yuji back, but that doesn't change the fact that Sukuna had the power and guts to kill his vessel in the first place.

On top of that, Megumi and Nobara go on thinking Yuji is dead for several episodes. Sukuna is a wild card, and thus it's on-brand for him to do something as drastic as killing his vessel on a whim.

9 Pro: He Can Also Save His Vessel At Any Time

Sukuna saved Yuji from completely dying after ripping out Yuji's heart, and Sukuna is shown healing Yuji on other occasions as well. This is best demonstrated during the fight with the Finger Bearer when Sukuna takes over Yuji's body and heals his fingers and hand.

It's noted that Sukuna did this unintentionally, meaning even when Sukuna doesn't want to heal his vessel, it's sometimes just a byproduct. This can come in handy when fighting special grade cursed spirits, especially the ones after Sukuna's fingers.

8 Con: Jujutsu Sorcerers And Cursed Spirits Alike Will Always Be After The Vessel

The Kyoto branch of Jujutsu High isn't thrilled with Yuji being Sukuna's vessel. In fact, they're one of the main reasons Gojo hides that Yuji lived after the Cursed Womb arc. Even more pressing is the threat of various special grade curses, some of which far outpace the other cursed spirits that Yuji and his friends have encountered.

Yuji isn't safe as long as he's Sukuna's vessel. Both he and Gojo have to constantly watch Yuji's back, and that's on top of the basic dangers of hosting Sukuna in the first place.

7 Pro: Sukuna Can Defeat Virtually Any Opponent

Sukuna isn't called the King of Curses for nothing; his power is unparalleled. During the fights with Mahito and the Finger Bearer, it's obvious that many other cursed spirits pale in comparison to Sukuna's power.

Sukuna was able to obliterate the Finger Bearer with ease. Furthermore, Sukuna effortlessly bested a cursed spirit exponentially stronger than the Finger Bearer. Though Mahito put up a good fight, he was on the defensive most of the time, and once he fell into Sukuna's Domain, it was over.

6 Con: The Vessel Has To Deal With Sukuna's Big Personality

To save himself, Yuji had to make a deal with Sukuna. He finally meets Sukuna within Sukuna's Domain, and when he does, he realizes Sukuna is a huge jerk.

It can be argued that Sukuna was only toying with Yuji here, as Sukuna had a plan and could really do whatever he wanted. Still, Sukuna has a use for Yuji. That being said, his arrogant attitude, his unwillingness to help, and his hardball deals make him a pain to live with.

5 Pro: Sukuna Will Deal With Annoying Antagonists For The Vessel

Mahito was a thorn in every sorcerer's side. He manipulated and killed Junpei Yoshino for no reason, and he nearly killed fan favorite sorcerer Kento Nanami. Yuji finally confronts the sadistic curse, and in a moment of sweet revenge, he lands a glorious punch on Mahito's face.

Unfortunately, Mahito's powers make him a hard-to-catch cursed spirit. It isn't until Sukuna steps in that Mahito is defeated, as in a moment of arrogance, Mahito accidentally disturbs the great King of Curses by touching Sukuna's soul a second time. Mahito escapes, but only because Sukuna doesn't press the issue.

4 Con: Sukuna Has To Be Convinced To Help His Vessel

Sukuna isn't as helpful to his vessel as he seems. There have been countless times where Yuji was in danger and Sukuna didn't come forth to help. He doesn't intervene when Yuji and Aoi Todo fight Hanami, and he doesn't want to intervene with Mahito. During the fight with Mahito, Sukuna's help is only a result of Mahito accidentally touching Sukuna's soul.

Furthermore, during the Finger Bearer fight, Sukuna didn't want to deal with the cursed spirit or heal Yuji. All of his help is due to Yuji making deals with him or other cursed spirits thinking they can impose their will on him.

3 Pro: Sukuna Has A Huge Well Of Power To Draw From

Sukuna slays the strongest cursed spirits without batting an eye, can regenerate body parts without even thinking about it, and is basically immortal. All of this is on top of the fact that his true power hasn't yet been revealed.

With so much innate power, it's easy to see why so many jujutsu sorcerers and cursed spirits alike are after Sukuna's fingers and vessel. As Sukuna's vessel, the host has access to seemingly limitless power and energy — that is, if said vessel can convince Sukuna to gift even the smallest fraction of that power to them.

2 Con: Sukuna Can Possess And Take Over The Vessel's Body

As Yuji has learned the hard way, having Sukuna take one's body for a spin isn't ideal on any level, and it often leads to death. Because of the Binding Vow, Sukuna can possess Yuji for one minute, but Yuji has no idea this deal has even been made.

Even though Sukuna promised not to kill anyone during that time, the amount of chaos that could ensue without Yuji being able to intervene is massive, and this isn't even counting what happens when Yuji eats more fingers.

1 Pro: The Vessel Can Make A Deal With Sukuna And Has Leverage

Luckily for Yuji, his body can withstand most of Sukuna's antics and Sukuna's vast repository of cursed energy. However, for those who lack that special connection with Sukuna and whose body constitution isn't one-in-one-million like Yuji's is, the only hope would be making a deal with Sukuna.

Fortunately, viewers have seen that Sukuna is open to this. On the other hand, Sukuna can pretty much get whatever he wants in exchange. But with the right leverage, anything is possible. For Yuji, his body and unique abilities make him able to deal with Sukuna.
