Jujutsu Kaisen: 5 Times Satoru Was Too Cute (& 5 He Was Absolutely Terrifying)

Jujutsu Kaisen masterfully balances the boyish attitude of Shonen anime with the darker tones of a Seinen. To do this, the new anime series uses its characters, settings, and plot to reinvent the genre with a darkness that few would expect in a Shonen.

No character exemplifies this mixture of lighthearted fun and terrifying horror like Satoru Gojo. The strongest cast member of Jujutsu Kaisen is a potential threat to all of humanity, yet still manages to make fans blush with his boyish charm. There is a reason Jujutsu Kaisen has jumped to the forefront of the new generation of anime and it has a lot to do with the way it balances these two polarizing qualities.

10 The Way Gojo Explains His Cursed Technique To Jogo Is Both Hilarious And Adorable

The battle between Satoru Gojo and the special grade cursed spirit Jogo will forever go down as one of the best fight scenes in all of Jujutsu Kaisen for the way it balances Gojo's lightheartedness with the terrifying displays of power common of cursed energy manipulation. Satoru is a character that masterfully balances this contradictory binary.

During his bout with Jogo, Satoru slows down the fight to explain his cursed technique to the cursed spirit. Though some fans might assume that explaining his technique to the cursed spirit would put him at a disadvantage, Satoru still takes the time to prove how untouchable he is and even the coldest fans have to admit that it is pretty darn cute.

9 Gojo's Display Of The Infinite During His Battle With Gojo Is Terrifying

Though Gojo has his cute moments during his battle with Jogo, this battle is the first time that Satoru gets to put on a full display of his jujutsu mastery in front of viewers. By the end of the battle, it is clear that Satoru is in the position of sensei not because he failed to achieve his goals in the real world, but because he has chosen this position.

What makes this scene even more terrifying is the implications that it leaves for Yuji Itadori. This fight scene makes it clear that the man who has taken him in is fully capable of murdering him whenever he sees fit. Which makes it that much more important for him to reign in the power of Sukuna.

8 Gojo's Sweet Tooth, Boyish Charm, And Childish Personality All Show Themselves In Spades During His Anime Debut

When Satoru Gojo is introduced to fans of Jujutsu Kaisen he brings along a souvenir, a smartphone, and a powerful presence that not even the King of Curses can match. Before ever putting his strength on display, Satoru uses his phone to snap a few pictures of the injured Megumi before handing the best boy his sweet souvenir and flaunting his status as the strongest Jujutsu Sorcerer.

Though Gojo's display of strength is undeniably intimidating, the way he carries himself with the charm of a cocky young man is adorable.

7 The Way Gojo Mourns Yuji's Death Is Frightening

After Sukuna murders Yuji Itadori by ripping out his heart, Satoru quickly sees through the trap laid out by the higher-ups and threatens to seek out revenge by murdering them all. As he sits next to Yuji's lifeless body fans are treated to one of the strongest jujutsu sorcerer's most genuine displays of emotion and it is a terrifying sight to behold.

The way Satoru speaks in this moment makes it clear that he is not joking. Fans already know how capable Gojo is thanks to the display he put on while facing down Jogo, which makes these words frightening.

6 Nobara Might Be Creeped Out By Gojo'sPlan For Yuji's Comeback, But Fans Have To Admit It Was Pretty Cute

After threatening to kill all of the higher-ups that rule over the world of jujutsu sorcery, Satoru returns to his normal cute self once Yuji is resurrected by Sukuna and returns from the grave. Following Yuji's resurrection, Satoru takes advantage of the young man's staged death to hide him from the higher-ups and train him in the art of jujutsu, but it was only a matter of time before Gojo had to report Yuji's resurrection to his elders.

The way Satoru plans for Yuji's comeback is adorable albeit a bit tone-deaf. Although considering Satoru's tendency for pranking his students, it is entirely possible that he knew just how inappropriate his cute display was and went about planning it out with Yuji anyway.

5 While Todo, Yuji, & Gakuganji Fight For Their Lives Gojo Floats Over The Battle Field With An Eerie Omniscience

Nothing is quite as terrifying as an unmasked Gojo floating over the battlefield as his allies fight for their lives below him. This image will forever be burned into the minds of Jujutsu Kaisen fans thanks to Gojo's beautiful blue eyes and the decisive actions he took against Juzo Kumiya and Hanami that followed.

The most frightening part of this scenario is not Satoru's eyes though. Instead, it lies in the fact that Gojo chose to save Principal Gakuganji before helping Yuji and Todo from a distance. Was this action meant to prove that Yuji and Todo are more capable in combat than Gakuganji? Or is Gojo so obsessed with embarrassing the higher-ups that he would risk the lives of two of his students?

4 The Father-Son Dynamic Between Gojo & Megumi Is Super Cute

The manga arc that comes after the events that wrapped up the first season of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime follows Satoru Gojo into the past. Here, Gojo faces off against Toji Fushiguro, the sorcerer killer.

After Satoru takes care of Toji, he learns that the sorcerer killer has a son who possesses the Ten Shadows Cursed Technique. In order to protect Megumi from the greedy leaders of the Zenin clan, Satoru takes the young boy in and helps him grow into the young man that fans know and love today. Satoru's fatherly instinct humanizes the strongest jujutsu sorcerer in a way that anime-only fans have yet to see from Gojo.

3 After Failing To Defeat Toji Fushiguro The First Time, Gojo Pushes Past His Limit To Prove He Is The Strongest

Gojo's fight with Toji Fushiguro shows the overpowered sorcerer in his most vulnerable and terrifying states yet. Suffice it to say, Gojo's terrifying stature may come as a result of his unrequited vulnerability.

After Gojo is defeated by Toji, he manages to push past his limits and master the art of reversing the flow of cursed energy in order to create positive energy. This revelation puts a scary smile on the young man's face that even makes the powerful Toji Fushiguro falter.

2 Gojo's Relationship With Suguru Geto Is Admirably Adorable

Gojo's Past Arc does more than just introduce Toji Fushiguro. It also gives viewers a snapshot at the close bond that Satoru Gojo shared with Suguru Geto while he was enrolled at Tokyo Jujutsu High. The man who now boldly claims to be the strongest jujutsu sorcerer once avoided this personal claim in order to include his friend.

"We are the strongest" didn't become "I am the strongest" until after Geto swore to erase humanity from the world.  After first meeting Satoru as an independent and terrifyingly powerful jujutsu sorcerer, it is endearing to see him embrace the help of a friend when making his claim to strength. So endearing and cute that fans might even shed a tear when they consider the fate that Suguru Geto faces in the modern timeline of Jujutsu Kaisen's canon.

1 Gojo Very Nearly Paints The Walls Of Shibuya Station With The Remains Of Three Special Grade Cursed Spirits & A Cursed Womb.

The crazed look that Gojo possesses during his rematch with Toji Fushiguro can only be seen again when fans see Gojo face off against three special grade cursed spirits and a cursed womb. After removing his blindfold and releasing his limitless cursed technique, Gojo promises to kill all four of the enemies standing in his way with a conviction that few would dare challenge.

If Kenjaku hadn't stepped in with the prison realm, Gojo would have killed all of the curses threatening Shibuya Station. For fans that still doubt Gojo's terrifying strength, let's look to the splat on the wall that once called itself Hanami for a second opinion.
