The Celestials are some of the most powerful beings ever seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 introduced Marvel fans to the Celestial named Ego. Born as a floating, cosmic consciousness, Ego had unimaginable power that only grew as he aged. Unfortunately for the cosmic being, he met his end when his half-human son Peter Quill didn't agree with his dad's plan to remake the universe in Ego's image.
The Celestials will soon make a return in the upcoming MCU movie Eternals. With their powers on display again, it begs the question: did Star-Lord actually kill Ego? Being as powerful as he was, Ego may have concocted a way to save himself if his core was destroyed as it was in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Ego could have made a backup of his core and placed it in one of the planets he seeded.
Celestials can die, as shown by the floating skull of a Celestial that was transformed into the mining colony Knowhere, which was introduced in the first Guardians film. However, Ego's death by a bomb does underplay the grand cosmic power Celestials have. Being as single-minded with his quest as he was, Ego may not have bothered to come up with a plan in case of his destruction and would have needed a last-ditch effort to survive.
Throughout his travels, Ego placed parts of himself in the planets he visited so that he could activate them when the time for the Expansion came. Ego may be capable of transferring his mind into one of these seeds throughout the many planets to create a new core. If that is possible, Ego could essentially recreate himself and have a new planetoid body.
Alternatively, the Celestials themselves may be able to bring Ego back. But judging by how Ego needed one of his offspring to complete his grand scheme, it's likely the other Celestials didn't agree with his "remake the universe in his image" plan. Ego wouldn't have gone through all the trouble of siring offspring and searching for one that could yield his powers if he could have just asked one of the other cosmic beings to help him.
There is another option even Ego may not have considered: his offspring. No one knows how many children Ego had, meaning Peter could have just been next in line with even more progeny after him. If any of them share the gift like Peter, perhaps Ego could have transferred his consciousness into one of his kids. With Thanos' snap and the Celestials beginning to stir, Ego could be laying low in the MCU and waiting for the opportunity to start the Expansion again.
If Ego is around and he decides to confront the Celestials head-on, it would be a battle of ideals. If more exist, Ego could lead an army of Celestial-powered children against his fellow cosmic beings. The group created the Eternals to protect the Earth from Deviants, meaning they must care about life enough to disagree with Ego's plan. Should he return to try again, Ego and the Celestials could clash in a cosmic battle epic enough to make Avengers: Endgame look like child's play.
