Scarlet Witch has been a big deal in the Marvel Universe for a long time and thanks to WandaVision, she's about to become an even bigger deal in the MCU. As one of the most powerful magic users in the Marvel Universe, Scarlet Witch has often been at the forefront of the Avengers, both saving the day and almost dooming it by losing control of her powers.
The MCU likes to take their inspiration from comics stories and there are lots of great Scarlet Witch stories to choose from, ones that would work well as Disney+ shows or movies, adding new facets to the character.
10 New Avengers #26 Was A Different Kind Of Scarlet Witch Story In One Of Her Most Tumultuous Eras
The time from Avengers Disassembled to House Of M was one of Scarlet Witch's biggest eras of recent years, as she was pivotal to two of the Marvel Universe events. These two stories would see her kill and resurrect Hawkeye and New Avengers #26, by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Alex Maleev, would take a look at the fallout from this action.
The returned Hawkeye hunts her down to Mount Wundagore but finds her with no memory of what she's done. The two of them end up having a passionate night together as Hawkeye lets go of his anger towards her. In an era of scary Scarlet Witch stories, this quiet story about change and forgiveness was very welcome.
9 Avengers Vs X-Men #0 Saw Scarlet Witch Try To Reconnect With Her Friends
Scarlet Witch had been going through one of her least sympathetic stretches for a while by the time of Avengers Vs. X-Men #0, by writers Brian Michael Bendis and Jason Aaron and artist Frank Cho. It was the prelude to the 2012 event and saw a story split between Scarlet Witch and Hope Summers. In Scarlet Witch's half of the story, she battles against MODOK, defeating him with the help of Spider-Woman.
Spider-Woman took her back to Avengers Mansion but the team reacts rather badly, still not trusting her. It's a heartbreaking story and sees Scarlet Witch at her most vulnerable. While she's yet done nothing as bad in the MCU as in the comics, it would still be an interesting story to adapt.
8 Uncanny Avengers: Ragnarok Now Saw Scarlet Witch Embroiled In A Fiendish Plot
Uncanny Avengers: Ragnarok Now, by writer Rick Remender and artists Daniel Acuna and Steve McNiven, is ostensibly an Avengers story but Scarlet Witch plays a massive part in it. She gets embroiled in a plan by the Apocalypse Twins which involves the Rapture, sending the mutant race to another planet away from humans.
Of course, there's way more to it than that, as the Uncanny Avengers try to stop the villains before they can enact their plan. It's a great Avengers story centering on Scarlet Witch and it highlights several of her most important relationships, the ones she had with Wonder Man and Rogue.
7 "The Witch On Wundagore Mountain" Was The Genesis Of All The Scarlet Witch Going Crazy Stories
Avengers #186-187, by writers David Michelenie, Mark Gruenwald, and Steven Grant, and artist John Byrne, was one of the most important Scarlet Witch stories of all time, as it planted the seed for many stories. Revealing that she was marked at birth by the demon Chthon, she would lose her body to the demon and the Avengers had to stop this new threat.
This story ended up being the catalyst for many modern Scarlet Witch stories. It would be interesting to see how the MCU approaches this one, especially with all of the things they are currently doing with the character.
6 "Darker Than Scarlet" Deals With The Origin Of Vision And Scarlet Witch's Kids
WandaVision introduced audiences to Billy and Tommy, the children of Scarlet Witch and Vision. The two have a long history in the comics and one of the darkest parts of that history, and yet another brick in the wall of crazy Scarlet Witch stories, is "Darker Than Scarlet" from Avengers West Coast #52-57, by writer/artist John Byrne.
The story would reveal the truth behind Billy and Tommy, that they were fragments of Mephisto's soul. This would lead to Wanda losing it and going after the Avengers. With MCU fans always guessing Mephisto is behind things, this would be a great story for them.
5 Giant-Size Avengers #4 Showcased The Wedding Of Scarlet Witch And Vision
Scarlet Witch and Vision's relationship is central to her MCU character arc and while WandaVision made it more difficult than before, fans love the two together. In the comics, they did tie the knot and had a big superhero wedding in Giant-Size Avengers #4, by writers Steve Englehart, Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Gary Friedrich and artists Don Heck, Jack Kirby, and John Buscema.
Vision battles to save Scarlet Witch's soul from Dormammu and there are Kang's hijinks as well, leading to a double wedding of cosmic proportions. While it shouldn't get a one-to-one adaptation, it's still one that MCU fans should get to see.
4 The Vision And Scarlet Witch #1-12 (Vol. 2) Deals With The Birth Of Scarlet Witch And Vision's Twins
WandaVision took inspiration from a lot of stories but didn't really adapt any of them. One of the stories that inspired it was The Vision And Scarlet Witch #1-12 (Vol. 2), by writer Steve Englehart and artist Richard Howell. The story saw the two dealing with their families, which at the time included Ultron and Magneto, while trying to find a way for Scarlet Witch to get pregnant with Vision's child.
So many of Scarlet Witch's stories are sad and terrible but this one isn't. All about the lengths that two people will go to for love, it could act as a great sequel to WandaVision. Scarlet Witch and Vision deserve some joy and this story could give it to them.
3 Avengers Disassembled Was The Beginning Of Wanda's Modern Woes
Avengers Disassembled was a turning point for the Avengers and Scarlet Witch. Written by Brian Michael Bendis with art by David Finch, it was the first salvo in the writer's re-evaluation of Scarlet Witch, as she attacked the Avengers, costing them some of their own. It started a new era for Marvel in general, as Scarlet Witch's actions would have major repercussions.
Avengers Disassembled would be a great story to adapt. Scarlet Witch in the MCU is in a similar mental position as she was in this story and her threat could be the one that takes apart what's left of the old team and builds something new.
2 Avengers: The Children Crusade Was The Beginning Of The Redemption Of Scarlet Witch
After years of being the bad guy, Avengers: The Children Crusade, by writer Allan Heinberg and artist Jimmy Cheung, was the beginning of the road back for Scarlet Witch. The Young Avengers, following rumors, go to Latveria to find out if Scarlet Witch is there. What they find will change everything both for them and the Avengers.
Avengers: The Children Crusade did a lot to make up for years of Scarlet Witch stories. It would retcon a lot of events from those stories, casting them and Wanda in a whole new light. Plus, it's peak Young Avengers and has Doctor Doom, two things the MCU needs.
1 House Of M Contains Scarlet Witch's Greatest Feat Of Power
House Of M is yet another story that WandaVision used as inspiration but wasn't exactly adapting. Written by Brian Michael Bendis with art by Olivier Coipel, the story saw Wanda's greatest feat of power, recreating the world with mutants on top and humans an endangered species. Things couldn't stay that way, as Wolverine awakens with all his memories of the old world and sets out to make things right.
House Of M has its ups and downs but it's one of the most important Marvel stories of the 21st century. The story may not be able to work exactly like the comic story did but it's still a major part of Scarlet Witch's evolution that needs to be adapted.
