The Power Rangers’ Cosmic God was Just Butchered by [Spoiler]

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for Power Rangers #11, available now from Boom! Studios.

The Power Rangers have never faced darker days, with both their friends and their enemies casting dark shadows over them. With time running out and no real idea of how to handle their multitude of problems, the Omega Rangers have turned to the last living god they have for help. Unfortunately, even the Yellow Emissary doesn't seem to want anything to do with the team, leaving them on yet another hunt through the cosmos. In Power Rangers #11 (by Ryan Parrott, Francesco Mortarino, Raul Angulo, Jose Enrique Fernandez, and Ed Dukeshire), the Yellow Emissary has finally decided to help the Rangers fight the Empyreals, and doing so has cost the powerful deity their life.

After arriving in what seems like barren space, the Omega Rangers touch down on a desolate landscape in search of the Yellow Emissary. Despite the warning to stay away, the Emissary eventually relents and tells the Power Rangers what it is they want to know. As it turns out, the Empyreals they are so desperate to defeat are directly connected to the Emissaries Three in a way. The Yellow Emissary explains that the death of the Blue Emissary broke the figurative chain the the Emissaries formed that safeguarded the universe from threats beyond its bounds.

When Kiya ended the life of the Blue Emissary, she inadvertently allowed the first Empyreal to cross over, and with the death of the Yellow Emissary, the final Empyreal will be able to enter this dimension. All of this information comes with one very important caveat, however, which is that no matter how grave the threat of the Empyreals may be, it is their defeat that promises to doom the universe. From what the Emissary tells them, the survival of this reality depends on the Omega Rangers falling in battle, and the abrupt arrival of their enemies makes this a very real possibility.

As the Yellow Emissary and Omega Rangers discuss the matter at hand, the two Empyreals appear before them. Almost immediately, a battle begins, with the Rangers fighting valiantly against their alien assailants despite being severely outmatched. It doesn't take long for the Empyreals' innate advantage over their foes to be felt, with Trini very nearly being killed by one of them, only for the Yellow Emissary to finally step up and join in the fight.

Seeing a Yellow Ranger in such dire straits is enough for the Emissary to snap out of its self imposed pacifist stance, although saving its patron Ranger is about all the help it is willing to offer. Seeing all things by being directly connected to the Morphin Grid and its energies has given the Emissaries a nearly omnipresent perspective that has already informed the Yellow Emissary that its time is at an end. With almost no effort, one of the Empyreals takes hold of the Emissary and tears it in half in a brutal display of power. In an instant, the Yellow Emissary's life is brought to a violent end by an enemy the Power Rangers have no hope of stopping on their own.

Now that the Yellow Emissary is gone and the final Empyreal will be able to cross over into our universe, there is no telling what will happen next. While the Blue Emissary was able to maintain some form of existence in this realm, that doesn't look like it will be the case for their Yellow counterpart.

This new development, coupled with their most powerful allies being just as twisted as the Empyreals, make it hard to imagine that there will be anything left for the Rangers to do but wait for the horror to unfold in front of them as they face the most terrifying moment of their lives.
