5 Robert Pattinson Movies That Prove He Is More Than the ‘Twilight Guy’

The newest trailer for The Batman shows off the next portrayal of the Dark Knight, with Robert Pattinson being the latest actor to don the cowl. However, with the huge success of Pattinson's starring role in the Twilight franchise, many still view him as the teenage-heartthrob Edward the vampire. Yet there is so much more to his acting career, with some truly great and mature acting roles. And so, here's a look into the most stand-out performances of Pattinson's career.

By far the weirdest performance of Pattinson's career, 2019's The Lighthouse really displays the actor's range. Often said to be the best demonstration of his acting, Pattinson and Willem Dafoe are the only characters in the whole movie, trapped together on a lighthouse island. With long monologues that range from compassionate to angry, Pattinson gives an incredible performance as his situation slowly drives him to insanity. The Lighthouse is a movie everyone should watch at least once, though they must be prepared to take away their own meanings from the movie, rather than being told what's happening.

While director Christopher Nolan's latest movie doesn't have Pattinson as the protagonist, he still plays a key part in the story. Tenet is full of time warping action and international espionage, and helping guide the protagonist through it all is Pattinson's character, Neil. Neil is incredibly likable and helpful, and Pattinson manages to explain a lot of time distorting knowledge, making it sound serious and not as absurd as it really is. Nolan movies are always a guaranteed spectacle, and Tenet is no exception.

Being one of Pattinson's earlier films, the 2010 romance Remember Me goes back to the actor's roots with a teen drama romance. Compared to Twilight, Remember Me tackles much heavier topics of family, loss and moving on. And Pattinson's character, being one of the main love interests, does a good job at not coming across as corny, as he struggles to come to terms with his brother's suicide. Although it's not for everyone, fans of the genre will definitely want to check out Remember Me.

In his first blockbuster movie, Pattinson played the character of Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Competing against Harry in the deadly Triwizard Tournament, Cedric is one of the nicer opponents who befriends the protagonist and sticks with him to the very end. Though almost the earliest point in his career, Pattinson still gets to show off his acting skill and demonstrates why he was often cast as the more friendly and likable character.

The most recent movie on this list, Pattinson stars alongside Tom Holland in the psychological thriller The Devil All the Time. Living in a town full of corruption, Pattinson plays Reverend Preston Teagardin, one of the film's villains who uses his position to sexually abuse women. Despite being incredibly corrupt, Pattinson still brings charisma to the character, which makes him all the more interesting, even if the audience is against him. And paired with his previous film, The Lighthouse, these movies show Pattinson can act way beyond the edgy nice-guy teen of his youth.
