While some sidekicks are the brains of the enterprise, some of them are more about the brawn, the comic relief, or the firepower. Whether their intelligence is an asset or a hindrance, these anime sidekicks will work with what they have to help out the person in charge.

10 Most Intelligent: Shikamaru Becomes The Hokage's Right-Hand Man In Boruto

Shikamaru Nara is well-known throughout the Hidden Leaf Village for being one of the most brilliant shinobi minds to ever grace the Naruto universe. He was lazy as a child, and this caused his Academy grades to fall, but he was hiding a genius mind. His sensei, Azuma Sarutobi, was the one who discovered it, and after the Chunin Exam arc, his brilliant plans shined time and time again.

Shikamaru leads a lot of missions, but he is the right-hand man to the Seventh Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki, by the events of Boruto. He is one of the most trusted advisors and battle tacticians with his incredible intellect.

9 Least Intelligent: In JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Jean Pierre Polnareff Can't Even Be Trusted With The Plans

Compared to the other members he traveled with during Stardust Crusaders, Jean Pierre Polnareff was the least tactically minded and most likely to do something rash. This was proven when he was not let in on the secret of Avdol's fake death because everyone was sure he would ruin the plan.

Meanwhile, characters like Jotaro Kujo, Joseph Joestar, Muhammad, and even Noriaki Kakyoin were constantly pulling off amazing plans with long thought-out tactics. Polnareff had a lot of speed and strength, but critical thinking was not his strong suit, and his friends died when he was unable to gain a victory.

8 Most Intelligent: Killua Often Overshadows Gon In Hunter X Hunter

Hunter Killua Zoldyck is commendable for his ability to analyze battle situations, making him a formidable opponent. He had a difficult childhood in which he was abused and made a killer. His best friend and comrade, Gon, helps him deal with that part of his life, and though the two initially have a rocky relationship, Killua is a much-needed part of the team.

He is confident in his ability, and rightfully so, as he is a rational-minded fighter who is a veteran of the trade.

7 Least Intelligent: Inosuke Can't Calm Down Long Enough To Think In Demon Slayer

Inosuke Hashibira is a "swing first, ask questions later" type hero. He uses Beast Breathing style and wears a boar's head, highlighting his eccentric design. His biggest flaw is his tendency to consider himself the best in any given situation, leading him to bite off more than he can chew on occasion.

For example, after being injured in the fight with the spider demons, Giyu has to subdue him to prevent him from continuing to fight. Inosuke just does not know when to stop and fall back for strategy's sake.

6 Most Intelligent: Sir Night Eye Is Always One Step Ahead In My Hero Academia

Sir Nighteye was the sidekick who worked with the Number One Pro Hero, All Might. He made a name for himself by being an incredibly smart tactician, and that was bolstered by his ability to see the future. He could always be one step ahead, baffling the enemy.

What made him even more interesting was his almost sadistic sense of humor and deep love for All Might. Unfortunately, Sir Nighteye fell in the fight to save Eri from Overhaul.

5 Least Intelligent: Kiba Doesn't Think Anything Through In Naruto

Kiba Inuzuka loved to make fun of Naruto Uzumaki when they were younger for his failures at the Academy. However, as the series progressed, Naruto proved himself capable of great power and strategy. Kiba, on the other hand, was more of a one-hit-wonder with little versatility in his abilities and a lack of intelligence and power that failed to measure up to many of his peers.

Kiba has an aggressive personality that sees him take on enemies he sometimes is not ready to fight, as seen in his fight with Sakon and Ukon.

Kaminari has a quirk that is capable of packing a punch, but the drawback is that it short-circuits his brain, rendering him less capable of logic and tactical planning. When he doesn't use his quirk, he is not at the top of his class, but he is more than capable.

Until Kaminari gets a better handle on his quirk and finds a workaround for his poor aim, he is destined to be a sidekick. He can certainly grow and get stronger. but for now, his quirk's drawback hinders him in his missions.

2 Most Intelligent: Kabuto Was Orochimaru's Right Hand Man And Scientist In Naruto

Kabuto is the mastermind behind Orochimaru's scientific operation. He is the reason Orochimaru was able to succeed in his body switches and his reanimation pursuits. Kabuto's medical ninjutsu is extremely formidable, and he can regenerate his cells in the blink of an eye. He was also crafty enough to hide under the Leaf Village's nose as a spy.

As the right-hand man of a villain like Orochimaru, he is a sidekick in a much darker sense. His extreme intelligence allows him to help Orochimaru in some terrible crimes.

1 Least Intelligent: Taiju Oki Is The Muscle Of The Group In Dr. Stone

Taiju Oki is useful for his brute strength and power of will. He is also a stable character who, unlike many characters who rely on raw power, never loses his head. However, he is constantly depicted as being an airhead who makes many quips fans see as misguided or foolish.

He is a sidekick to Senku and provides the much-needed muscle to Senku's brain. He is the quintessential sidekick, filling in where the hero cannot, even if he does lack the rational mind and book smarts his compatriots have.
