Aquaman Explains His Fish Telepathy with a King of Atlantis Musical Number

A new clip from DC's Aquaman: King of Atlantis animated series features a musical number wherein the titular hero explains his fish telepathy powers.

The clip, which takes place in "Chapter Two: Primordeus," debuted at DC FanDome this weekend. The second episode of the upcoming animated series sees Aquaman and Mera searching for the villainous Ocean Master, who has stolen Aquaman's trident. Aquaman must use his powers of fish telepathy to ask the nearby ocean creatures if they've seen a mysterious fisherman who can lead them to Ocean Master. As summarized in the song, Aquaman sends out "a kind of sonar that intercepts their brains, they shoot it back to me and it goes inside my face." Along with the song, the clip features Aquaman getting stuck in a conversation with a talkative turtle, explaining to Mera that asking him to talk to a tuna is like asking him to talk to a cow and being warned of dangerous creatures by a colony of well-meaning krill. The song "I'm Talking to the Fish" is also now available on Spotify.

"Chapter 2: Primordeus" is the second installment of the three-part animated miniseries currently airing on HBO Max. The first episode, "Chapter One: Dead Sea," debuted on Oct. 14, with the second episode releasing on Oct. 21 and "Chapter Three: Tidal Shift" following suit on Oct. 28.

The series features the voice talent of Cooper Andrews (The Walking Dead) as the titular hero, Gillian Jacobs (Community) as the warrior princess Mera, Thomas Lennon (Reno 911) as Vulko and Dana Snyder (Jellystone!) as Ocean Master. Victor Courtright (ThunderCats Roar!) and Marly Halpern-Graser (Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) serve as showrunners and co-executive producers, along with Aquaman director James Wan acting as an executive producer. The series was first announced last year, and a first look was released in February as part of the trailer for Warner Bros.' upcoming animation slate.

Aquaman: King of Atlantis is a much more light-hearted, comedic take on the character, focusing on Arthur Curry's new job as the King of Atlantis, joined by his trusted advisors Mera and Vulko as they attempt to protect the underwater city from surface dwellers, ancient evils and the villainous Ocean Master, aka Aquaman's evil half-brother, Orm.

"This DC property is a fan-favorite rich with well-known characters and dynamic storylines," Head of Original Content at HBO Max Sarah Aubrey said when the Aquaman cartoon was first announced. "On the heels of Warner Bros. Pictures' box office smash hit, we are certain Aquaman: King of Atlantis will be an exciting addition to our already robust slate of kids and family programming."

The first episode of the series, titled "Chapter 1: Dead Sea," is available to stream on HBO Max and "Chapter 2: Primordeus" will debut on Oct. 21.
