DCEU: 10 Times Batman Proved He's Not A Hero | CBR

Batman is often considered to be one of DC's most famous heroes. As the creator of the DCEU's Justice League, Batman became the leader of the group, whose purpose was to protect the Earth from powerful threats. Whether Batman is a true hero or not often comes into question.

After all, he worked as a vigilante and this line of work often leads to the loss of life. He committed his fair share of crimes, and he himself is aware of it. Before his battle with Superman, Batman was motivated by his own rage and a desire to make criminals suffer as much as possible.

10 His Bat Brand "Of Justice" Led To Many Deaths

Batman took to branding some of Gotham's worst criminals, essentially marking them for death. People carrying the brand were despised and eventually killed by other inmates. Batman was making other criminals do the dirty work for him, so it was understandable that Superman didn't agree with his actions.

Batman was passing judgment on people who were already going to jail to pay for their crimes.

9 Batman Himself Admitted That He Was A Criminal

When he spoke to Alfred, Batman stated that they are and always have been criminals. Despite his actions making it into the newspapers, he didn't show any real desire to change.

Rather, he seemed to embrace his own crimes, which he himself admitted were fruitless since each time he caught a criminal, another would immediately take their place. Very rarely did Batman act in accordance to the law.

8 Batman Did Not Save Lois Lane

In a possible future, the Earth becomes a wasteland due to Batman's inability to save Lois Lane. As a result, Superman was susceptible to being controlled by Darkseid. This allowed Darkseid to easily take over the planet, and despite Batman's best efforts, he died at the hands of Superman, who blamed him for everything.

He did not understand the importance of keeping Lois alive, but the future seems preventable since the Flash went back in time to warn Bruce.

7 Batman's Reasoning To Hate Superman Was Flawed

After seeing the destruction caused by the battle between Superman and the other Kryptonians, Batman quickly realized how much more destruction would occur if Superman decided to turn against humanity.

He stated that if there was even a 1% chance of Superman being a threat, he should treat it as an absolute certainty. Although Batman was justified in preparing for the worst, he developed a bloodthirsty obsession with Superman.

6 Batman Killed Without Hesitation

Batman was seen killing multiple people in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. The film didn't linger too long on his actions, but the fast pace made it clear that he didn't care at all for the well-being of the people who got in his way.

He shot people and even crushed people inside of vehicles in his car chase. If Superman didn't stop him, Batman would have killed more people in the same night.

5 Batman Caused His Fair Share Of Destruction To The City

When Batman chased down the ones who were transporting the kryptonite, he didn't seem to care about the amount of destruction he caused to the buildings around him.

Despite hating Superman partially for the destruction he caused and took no responsibility for, Batman committed the same crime. It is doubtful that he paid for any of the damages, as that would easily give away his secret identity.

4 Batman Went Out Of His Way To Make Superman Suffer

While many fans enjoyed the actual fight between the two characters, the fight grew increasingly brutal. While Superman did not have any real desire to hurt Batman, Batman did not share the same sentiment towards Superman.

He seemed to go out of his way to make Superman suffer, dragging him around, throwing him from a high place, and even sadistically slicing his cheek. With the combination of the kryptonite gas and spear, Batman could have ended the battle much sooner.

3 Batman Never Tried Talking Things Out With Superman

Batman and Superman had a few opportunities to talk things out. Neither character really knew the other for anything other than their crimes, completely blind to their motivations and their goals. When they did exchange words in the first half of the movie, they merely criticized and threatened each other.

Since no attempt was made from either side to appeal to the other's humanity, it made the infamous Martha scene seem more out of place.

2 He Brought Superman Back To Life To Have Him Fight

After spending an entire film trying to kill Superman, Batman spends another film trying to resurrect him. His motivation for doing so was to have another warrior who could protect Earth from extraterrestrial threats.

Superman wasn't pleased to be treated like a weapon for humanity to use and criticized Batman's inability to decide whether or not he wanted him dead.

1 He Teamed Up With The Joker

Although Batman has made plenty of questionable decisions before this, his choice to team up with the Joker could easily be one of his worst decisions. Batman may be desperate to survive in an apocalyptic situation, but the Joker is known for causing more chaos.

Trusting him, even for a short period of time, could easily make the situation worse than it already is.
