Halloween Kills: Dolby Debuts Fiery Michael Myers Poster | CBR

Michael Myers is front and center in a new Halloween Kills poster from Dolby Cinema.

This new poster for Halloween Kills features the notorious killer, Michael Myers, emerging from the flames that almost -- but didn't -- kill him in 2018's Halloween. Directed and co-written by David Gordon Green, Halloween Kills will pick up where the 2018 film left off after Laurie Strode and her family trapped the masked killer in the basement and set the house ablaze, seemingly killing him. However, as Halloween fans know, Michael Myers is not that easy to get rid of. Halloween Kills, the followup to Halloween, stars Jamie Lee Curtis and will be released worldwide in Dolby Cinemas on Oct. 15.

Upon its release in 2018, the modern-day sequel earned $250 million in the worldwide box office and became the highest-grossing chapter in the Halloween franchise, which first began with John Carpenter's 1978 film of the same name. The franchise now spans eleven movies, as well as novels, video games, comic books and other merchandise.

Universal Pictures announced in September that Halloween Kills will premiere day-and-date in theaters and on Peacock. On top of that, Peacock Premium subscribers will be able to stream the sequel with no extra fee. It was later confirmed by Blumhouse founder, Jason Blum, that it was his idea to give the film a dual release in the hopes that it would reach as many audiences as possible.

"I didn't want to have a movie that I'm really proud of that I think is great and have there be an excuse why people didn't see it," Blum said at the time. "So I'm the one who pitched Universal. And then I pitched Jamie and David, and it was my idea. I stand behind it. I'm glad that we're doing it."

However, Blum also confirmed that he wanted a theatrical release for Halloween Ends, the third and final installment in Green's trilogy, saying, "I don't want [a day-and-date-release] for the third movie. I want to go back to traditional windows, but COVID is incredibly unpredictable, and I didn't want to risk it again."

Curtis will return in Halloween Kills as protagonist Laurie Strode, a role she has played since she first appeared in Carpenter's original Halloween in 1978. Nick Castle will also reprise his role as the notorious killer Michael Myers. 2018's Halloween served as a direct sequel to Carpenter's original slasher and was a massive box office success, leading to two more sequels, the first being Halloween Kills, the next being Halloween Ends which arrives in 2022.

Despite Curtis' 43-year saga as one of the original scream queens, she revealed in a previous interview that Halloween Ends might be her last appearance as Laurie Strode. "I would say, given what I know about the next movie, I think it will be the last time I will play [Laurie Strode]," she said.

Halloween Kills will premiere in theaters and become available to stream on Peacock starting Oct. 15.
