Metroid Dread Escue Boss Guide | CBR

Escue is Metroid Dread's sixth boss, which Samus encounter in Ferenia shortly after evading the E.M.M.I. unit that has been reactivated in this region. Players can see the monster bug flying around outside the tower that leads to the boss room. This fight is on par with the Chozo Soldier and its robot variant rather than being a multi-stage affair with more elaborate mechanics like Drogyga.

Missteps and impatience will lead Samus to a quick death. Players will experience the most frustration while learning how to exploit the boss's patterns in the first phase. However, with a little practice, this fight should go quickly. Taking this fight one Missile at a time while focusing on evading Escue's attacks will ultimately reward Samus with victory -- and a Missile upgrade.

It takes 18 Super Missile shots to end the first stage of Escue's fight. During the first stage, Escue uses three different attacks. The first is a ball of energy that will send an energy charge across the ground. The second is a series of homing projectiles, and the last is a nose-dive attack.

Once players deal enough damage to Escue, it will transform into a ball-like object. Escue will try to collide with Samus in this final section. Ending this stage requires five Super Missiles timed apart from each other, and Escue will release X parasites every time Samus shoots it.

The ball Escue shoots at Samus and its subsequent charge wave is the easiest attack to evade, but it is usually followed quickly by homing missiles -- sometimes before the ball has released its energy charge. Sliding from one end of the room to the other helps evade these missiles. Any that remain can be jumped over. Samus will likely take a hit or two from this attack each time. It can be completely avoided, but that is a harder feat to do consistently.

Escue will pull its wings in close over its body when it's preparing to dive at Samus. While Samus would typically be able to counter this attack from other enemies, that is not the case with Escue. Slide or jump out of the way to avoid this attack. This nose-dive does the most damage out of Escue's attacks, so always be sure to avoid it.

Since the released X parasites during the final section heal Samus, letting Samus's health get low during the first phase isn't a big deal. Furthermore, the X parasites will pretty much negate any damage Samus takes during the second phase. Players can effectively coast to the end of the fight once reaching the second section.

After taking out Escue, Samus will receive the Storm Missiles upgrade. This allows her to lock onto a maximum of five targets before firing a barrage of micro missiles. The Storm Missiles are good for more than combat, though. Samus can now move the blocks with green dots that bar her way. To do this, players simply need to target the five switches near these blocks and shoot them simultaneously. The path will then open for Samus to explore freely.
