REPORT: The Witcher: Blood Origin Will Be Narrated By Jaskier

The Witcher: Blood Origin is set long before Netflix's main series, but that doesn't mean that the show won't feature at least a few familiar faces. Surprisingly, that may mean the fan-favorite bard, Jaskier.

According to Redanian Intelligence, Jaskier -- known elsewhere in the franchise as the bard Dandelion -- will make an appearance in The Witcher: Blood Origin as a narrator. It's uncertain how long the character will appear or if he will make a vocal appearance or physical one in the series, which is set over a thousand years before the events of The Witcher.

The Witcher: Blood Origin explores the ancient history of the Continent, taking place in the aftermath of a cataclysmic event known as the Conjunction of the Spheres, during which entire worlds collided, littering the Continent with humans, monsters and the chaotic force known as magic. The upcoming show is in the final weeks of filming, with Declan de Barra serving as showrunner.

When audiences last saw Jaskier, played by Joey Batey, he was being scolded by a frustrated Geralt of Rivia. The reason being that the bard had unintentionally revealed to Yennefer of Vengerberg the wish that Geralt had made when he confronted the djinn-- the wish that the witcher and the sorceress' destinies would be bound forever. Distraught and enraged by the revelation, Yennefer left Geralt's side, leaving the witcher alone. Blaming Jaskier, for this and all the misfortunes he had suffered, Geralt demanded that the bard leave.

Jaskier became a fan-favorite character of the Netflix series thanks to Batey's performance in more dramatic scenes, as well as his vocal performance, singing the popular song, "Toss a Coin to Your Witcher," written by Sonya Belousova and Giona Ostinelli. Belousova previously explained that several versions of the song were written, ranging from medieval to contemporary, before the final version heard in the show was brought to life. Another interesting fact was that Batey was sick during the recording of the song; however, he managed to power through and delivered several takes.

It is currently unknown how Jaskier will fit into the upcoming second season of The Witcher. Early reports suggested that the show may explore the character's past. Specifically, his relationship with the Countess De Stael, who was briefly mentioned in Season 1. In Andrzej Sapkowski's The Tower of the Swallow, De Stael never appears but is mentioned and revealed to be one of the bard's muses during his younger years. A casting report suggested the character would appear, though the actor playing her has not yet been revealed.
