Canada recently honored actor and entrepreneur Ryan Reynolds with the Governor General's Performing Arts Award and marked the event with a musical tribute, which Reynolds reacted to on social media.
Reynolds had a few people to thank, writing, "Last night, Canada honoured me with a Governor General's Award and this video. I'm not crying. It's just maple syrup. [Steven Page] is a friend and legend for wasting this amazing song on me. Thank you to Her Excellency, [Governor General of Canada], Mary Simon. [Governor General's Awards] [Canada National Arts Center] I'm a wreck."
The Canadian actor added, "I'm glad I don't have to be dead to experience something like this. I'm so beyond touched right now. I recommend making a list of people you appreciate, then immediately telling them. You don’t even have to write this list with the blood of your enemies. Just a regular pen works."
The actor received responses from fellow actors, as well as prominent Canadian figures, such as Ottowa mayor Jim Watson, who wrote, "This is so well deserved. Ryan, your kindness and generosity has touched many in your former city of Ottawa - from your support to our food bank to doing an interview with three young podcasters [The Interview Dudes Podcast] Congratulations and thank you for just being NICE."
Reynolds is best known for his performances as Deadpool in Fox's X-Men franchise. Though the franchise came to an end with Disney's acquisition of Fox, the Deadpool franchise will continue as the Merc with the Mouth has been introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige also assured fans that a third instalment in the Deadpool film series is in the works.
Although a release date has not been announced, Reynolds himself previously expressed confidence that the third Deadpool film would begin filming some time in 2022. However, Reynolds later announced on social media that he intended to take a break from moviemaking. After completing work on Spirited, he wrote, "Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making. I’m gonna miss every second working with this obscenely gifted group of creators and artists." It's uncertain how this will affect the next Deadpool film, if at all.
Reynolds recently appeared alongside Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot in the Netflix film, Red Notice. The film centers on renowned art thief Nolan Booth, played by Reynolds; fellow art thief Sarah Black, played by Gadot; and FBI agent John Hartley, played by Johnson. Red Notice was released on Nov. 5 to generally negative reviews from critics. Howeve, it became the most-watched film in its debut weekend before becoming the second-most-watched film on Netflix.
