Marvel Comics has announced a new Infinity Comic centered on the Fantastic Four, the first issue of which is available now on Marvel Unlimited.
As revealed in a press release from Marvel Comics, Fantastic Four is a four-part series by writer Zac Gorman, artist Stefano Landini and colorist Ian Herring. The first issue is available now on Marvel Unlimited. According to the plot synopsis, "The Fantastic Four plan a glitzy night out at an interdimensional restaurant—only to be taken hostage by a gang of aliens set on robbing the place!"
Initially launched in 2007, Marvel Unlimited was relaunched earlier this year that changed the digital comics subscription service in a big way. Among several changes was the addition of Infinity Comics, which are series optimized specifically for reading on phones and tablets. Launch series included such titles as X-Men Unlimited, Captain America, Black Widow and more.
Marvel's increased emphasis on digital-first series comes amid the widespread success of comics platforms such as Webtoon and Tapas, which boast millions of active readers. Last year, Marvel's longtime rival in the superhero space, DC, expanded its DC Digital First publishing program. The Fantastic Four Infinity Comic will seemingly not affect the ongoing title's publication, as that series appeared in the latest round of solicitations.
Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the Fantastic Four first debuted in 1961's Fantastic Four #1. The team -- which generally consists of Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Ben Grimm/The Thing -- received their powers after being exposed to cosmic rays while in space. The team is one of Marvel's most recognizable and the Fantastic Four have featured in several animated series and live-action films. Currently, there are plans to bring the Fantastic Four to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although casting has not yet been announced for that film, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Far From Home director Jon Watts will helm the project.
Fantastic Four is available exclusively on Marvel Unlimited. New issues will be available every Tuesday. A basic monthly subscription to Marvel Unlimited costs $9.99 USD per month or $69 USD per year. There's an higher tier called Marvel Unlimited Plus that retails for $99.99 USD per month and includes a number of perks in addition to the basic subscription.
