Naruto: 5 Leaf Ninja Who Would Make Great Avengers (& 5 Who Wouldn't)

The Naruto franchise is home to many heroic shinobi who are always ready for a mission, and these ninja can do more than throw shuriken. They can also use chakra, an energy source for ninjutsu, and they can even summon giant animals, such as Gamabunta or Katsuyu the slug. All this puts Naruto ninja on par with powerful fighters from other franchises, such as the MCU.

If the entire world was threatened with an Avengers-level threat, such as Loki the mad god, the Chitauri aliens, or Ultron and his robot army, the Naruto ninja could visit the MCU and help defend the world from these terrifying threats. Many Leaf Village ninja would be up to the task, but some of them are too weak or simply redundant by Avengers standards.

10 COULD JOIN AVENGERS: Naruto Is A Whole Squad By Himself

At first, the young troublemaker Naruto Uzumaki would have been a terrible fit for the Avengers, but then he got a lot stronger and did some growing up. Near the end of Shippuden, Naruto Uzumaki was massively powerful, and he could easily take on an Avengers-level threat.

Naruto has enough firepower for several Avengers at once, and he can cover a wide area with his shadow clones to hold off the Chitauri or Ultron's robots. His Rasengan variants and fox chakra would also help him take on powerhouse villains like Ronan the Accuser and Thanos, the mad titan.

9 COULDN'T JOIN AVENGERS: Choji Akimichi Is A Weaker Hulk

Nick Fury doesn't want his Leaf Village recruits to be too similar to existing Avengers, and he wouldn't be impressed if Choji Akimichi showed up to ask for a slot in the team. Choji's role as a brute-force melee fighter is already taken by the Incredible Hulk, and the Hulk is the tougher of the two.

Choji has too few other talents to set him apart from the Hulk or other melee warriors, so he will simply not get a place on the team. He will, however, cheer on the other Leaf Village recruits as the good friend that he is.

8 COULD JOIN AVENGERS: Lady Tsunade Can Heal People & Throw A Punch

Lady Tsunade was the fifth Hokage, and she earned that title. She is one of the three Legendary Sannin, and like Jiraiya and Orochimaru, Tsunade can summon giant animals with ease to aid her in combat. In this case, she can summon Katsuyu the giant slug.

But that's not all. Tsunade is also an expert medical ninja who can quickly save herself or a teammate from certain death with her healing touch, which would benefit the Avengers greatly during battle. Tsunade also has formidable melee skills to defend herself or an injured ally while healing them.

7 COULDN'T JOIN AVENGERS: Hinata Hyuga Is Too Meek

Like Naruto, Hinata Hyuga was something of an ugly duckling in the Leaf Village as a naturally talented ninja who didn't recognize her own potential for years on end. She was seen as a failure, but then some encouraging words from Naruto helped Hinata realize her potential at last.

Hinata quickly made up for lost time, making full use of her Byakugan eyes and her family's unique taijutsu. She is now a respectable Leaf ninja, but even then, Nick Fury has stronger candidates to choose from, and those candidates don't need to have Naruto around to empower them.

6 COULD JOIN AVENGERS: Kakashi Hatake Can Do Anything

Kakashi Hatake was Naruto Uzumaki's first teacher outside of the academy, and he helped Naruto figure out all kinds of advanced jutsu and techniques, including the windmill Rasengan in Shippuden. But Kakashi is more than a teacher and a mentor in the Leaf Village.

Kakashi is an entire squad by himself since he has the smarts of a tactical leader, the taijutsu of a brute-force warrior, the ninjutsu of a wizard, and the Sharingan eyes of a true-blood Uchiha. Nick Fury would gladly recruit Kakashi and assign him to lead an Avengers team in battle.

5 COULDN'T JOIN AVENGERS: Danzo Shimura Isn't Trustworthy

Danzo is a reviled villain in the Naruto storyline since he is a ruthless schemer who has strict and unforgiving ideas on how the Leaf Village should be run. To his credit, he is a smart and powerful shinobi who genuinely wants what's best for the Leaf Village, but most people would hesitate to trust him or accept his methods.

Nick Fury is wary of schemers and traitors, and he would see the crafty, shady Danzo as a serious threat. Danzo might steal S.H.I.E.L.D. secrets for the benefit of the Root organization, or he might even try to take control of the Avengers for himself and fool everyone with advanced genjutsu. It's too risky.

4 COULD JOIN AVENGERS: Shikamaru Nara Is A Born Leader

When the time comes to find and hire a team leader for any mission, the brilliant Shikamaru Nara is always an appealing option. Tsunade trusted him with the Sasuke retrieval mission, for example, and Shikamaru helped take down Hidan and Kakuzu, too.

Shikamaru's 200+ IQ allows him to think dozens of moves ahead, as though everything was a game of shogi, and he has the patience to wait for the right moment to strike. Shikamaru could easily help coordinate the Avenger and S.H.I.E.L.D. against its many enemies, and he would also help catch and dispose of Hydra agents hidden in plain sight.

3 COULDN'T JOIN AVENGERS: Ino Yamanaka Would Be Redundant If Tsunade Was Accepted

Ino Yamanaka is a highly capable support ninja in her own right, and she can also use her family's unique mind transfer jutsu to take control of an enemy. But it's not always easy to pull that off during an Avengers battle, and some foes, such as Ultron, would be too difficult to control with that jutsu.

Ino also has medical expertise to her name, which is good, but Nick Fury will have Tsunade for that, and Tsunade is the best at what she does. Ino can't even join the Avengers as a leader or tactician, since Nick Fury could turn to Captain America and Shikamaru for that.

2 COULD JOIN AVENGERS: Kurenai Yuhi Can Use Genjutsu

Genjutsu techniques won't work on Ultron's robots, but then again, Kurenai could use her illusions to fool the Avengers' other enemies during covert operations. She could trick suspected Hydra agents into turning themselves in, or she could lure away the Avengers' enemies with other illusions.

Kurenai is best known for her genjutsu, but she can also defend herself in battle with standard taijutsu and equipment, so she won't be totally vulnerable if someone sees through her illusions. Still, she might want to bring along a teammate.

1 COULDN'T JOIN AVENGERS: Shino Aburame's Beetles Won't Operate At Full Capacity

Shino Aburame is a master of chakra beetles, and he is a member of Team 8, along with Hinata Hyuga and Kiba Inuzuka. Shino is a calm and cool-headed ninja who, like Shikamaru, will always think ahead and wait for the right moment to strike, even if he doesn't have a genius-level IQ.

Shino probably wouldn't earn a slot among the Avengers, though, since his beetles must eat enemy chakra to thrive, and villains such as Thanos, Loki, and Ultron certainly don't have chakra. Even if that's not a problem, Shino's ninjutsu-based firepower still falls short of Avengers standards.
