After the Colossus Titan breaks through Wall Maria, most human characters in Attack on Titan live in constant terror of being hunted down and eaten by their monstrous adversaries. Trying to fight back, let alone unravel the convoluted history of Paradis, is a monumental task for everyone concerned.
The characters make several mistakes over the course of the series, each resulting in multiple deaths, but that doesn't mean they never secure any victories. In fact, there have been quite a few instances in which carefully curated and impossibly intricate plans have actually succeeded, despite backlash from naysayers.
Warning: Manga spoilers ahead!
10 The Jaegerists Technically Win In The End
The Jaegerists seize control of Paradis and dismantle the government, leaving the heroes to search for alternative escape routes. The Female and Armored Titans join the fray, helping shift the battle in favor of the Scouts, and victory becomes all but certain when the Jaw and Cart Titans make their appearance.
Regardless of their temporary loss, the Jaegerists accrue far more political clout after Eren's death and Paradis' subsequent isolation from the rest of the world.
9 Eren Obtains The War Hammer Titan
Eren frames a complex plot to acquire the War Hammer Titan from its mysterious wielder in the Tybur family, earning and subsequently breaking Falco Grice's trust in the process.
The Scouts are also dragged, albeit grudgingly, into this battle, giving Eren all the back-up he needs to complete the job. He eventually figures out the purpose of the War Hammer Titan's special cable and siphons Lara Tybur out from her crystal cocoon with the help of the Jaw Titan's mouth.
8 The Fritz And Tybur Families Collude In The Creation Of Paradis
The Eldian Empire held sway over the region for hundreds of years, until King Karl Fritz decided to end the wanton destruction of life and property without causing any harm to his own subjects (for the most part).
He colluded with the Tybur family to ensure Marleyan victory, allowing Eldians to escape to the island of Paradis where they would supposedly be safe from external threats. According to Marley, it was Eren who came along and singlehandedly destroyed the status quo.
7 The Founding Titan Is Successfully Transferred To Its Final Wielder
Eren Kruger hands Grisha Jaeger access to the Attack Titan, hoping that the latter would set things right at a later point in time. Grisha settles in Shiganshina, where he meets and marries Carla and has another son, before proceeding to kill and consume the Founding Titan.
What audiences don't know at this point is that Eren's adult self "time-travels" through the Paths and basically forces his father into destroying the Reiss family, thereby giving Eren the Founding Titan he needs to accomplish his mission.
6 Erwin Smith's Coup Works Without A Hitch
Erwin suggests that the Paradis government is in some serious need of overthrowing, a notion that Dot Pyxis tentatively agrees with. The entire plan hinges on Erwin's analysis of his father's research, which claimed that humanity had somehow lost all memories that were more than a century old.
Erwin's coup seemingly fails, leading him to be sentenced to death, leaving him with no option but to fake the news of a Titan attack inside Wall Rose. The ministers naturally try to save their own hides, which results in their inevitable fall from grace.
5 Historia Reiss Is Established As The Queen Of The Walls
With the puppet king removed from power, the throne of Paradis is vacant, leaving somewhat of a power vacuum. Erwin and Pyxis plan to install Historia Reiss, the only surviving member of the ruling family, as the monarch.
She takes her new responsibilities quite seriously, given that she confidently declares herself to be the Queen of the Walls after killing her father, Rod Reiss, while he was in Titan form. The Scouts garner significant political power with Historia's coronation.
4 Levi Demolishes The Beast Titan At Shiganshina
Erwin Smith asks Levi to decide their respective fates at Shiganshina; the latter's choice ensures that the Beast Titan is taken out of action. Unfortunately, this plan requires Erwin Smith (and his remaining soldiers) to martyr themselves.
This consequently gives Levi enough leeway to launch his unstoppable blade whirlwind at the Beast Titan. The plan is a complete success. That is until the Cart Titan intervenes and rescues Zeke Jaeger in the nick of time.
3 Eren Manages To Seal The Hole In Wall Rose
The Colossus Titan's second arrival produces a massive hole in the section of Wall Rose surrounding Trost District, much like the one in Shiganshina five years prior.
This time, however, the humans have an unexpected ally on their side - Eren Jaeger as the Attack Titan. Under Dot Pyxis' supervision, soldiers from the Scout and Garrison Regiments assist Eren as he lugs an enormous boulder all the way to the Wall and successfully seals the opening.
2 The Rumbling Continues Until Most Of The World Is Dead
Eren commences the Rumbling despite near-universal opposition to his plan, transforming himself into the Founding Titan and leading his millions of Colossus Titans across the planet.
The only way to possibly stop the Rumbling after it commences is to kill Eren, a task that's much easier said than done. Before Armin and Mikasa are able to complete their dreaded tasks, the Rumbling destroys more than eighty percent of the world, reducing entire civilizations to rubble and gore.
1 Eren Secures A Tentative Peace Between Nations
Eren's maniacal plan to end the oppression of the Eldian people is more or less rooted in his vengeance against Titans, but there is a bit of method to his madness.
In a vision before his death, Eren explains to Armin that the Rumbling would obtain Paradis the freedom it deserves, mainly because it would terrify everyone else into submission. The plan works, although its ultimate outcome isn't exactly what Eren would have wanted.
